Built on almost a lifetime of love (the couple met in 6th grade!), this special day is overflowing with sweet moments and style. Pamela Barefoot Events designed the romantic rooftop wedding and Sophie Felts Floral Design created floral installations that make you feel as if you’ve stumbled upon the chicest of secret gardens. From the bride… Mark and I actually met when we were 12 years old in sixth grade math class. We went to middle school and high school together, but ran in different circles and were never close friends. It wasn’t until the summer of 2013, when we were rising college seniors interning in New York City, that we reconnected through a mutual friend. We shared our first date picnicking on wine and cheese on the High Line and have been snacking together ever since! My mom always says that the key to a successful marriage is being able to grow together. There’s a lot of big life changes that happen in your twenties — new careers, financial independence, family deaths — and we’ve been through it all together. I know we can grow old together, because we’ve already grown up together.
For our wedding, we wanted to return to our hometown of Washington, DC, where our families still live. So many of our guests have ties to the area, and we wanted our wedding to feel like a big homecoming for them as well. Our venue’s rooftop provided the most incomparable and iconic views of the monuments, while our wedding planner Pam of Pamela Barefoot Events designed the intimate secret garden of our dreams. The arches over the head tables were especially stunning.
They created an intimate oasis for our bridal party. We were thrilled with how the custom-designed lamp shades looked on our tables and the bar – such a unique touch when you typically just see candles! The same design was used to cover the dance floor, so we had flowers not just in the typical places but on the ground as well! The custom design by Plume Calligraphy was so gorgeous, we’re glad we got to utilize it in several aspects of our wedding design. But mostly, we loved watching all of the people in our lives come together in the city we love so much.
