A Spring Wedding at River Oaks Teeming With Southern Charm

For this couple, Charleston is where the magic happens,  from where they met, to where he proposed, to their wedding day at RiverOaks, this Lowcountry celebration planned by Marilyn Mahaley Events is one for the books! From poppies and peonies by August Design to a stunning (two-piece) wedding gown, the gallery captured by The Happy Bloom was full of all of the southern charm. Check it out below and get your Pinterest board ready!

What was the inspiration behind your wedding style?

From the Bride... I wanted it to feel fresh, crisp, and seasonally appropriate.

Why did you choose this location?

We wanted our guests to get a true sense of the LowCountry landscape. Many guests had never been to or experienced the LowCountry.

How did you two meet?

At work at the Montage Palmetto Bluff!

Tell us about your proposal story!

Edgar packed a bag and took us up to Charleston one Friday evening (2/5/21) for what I thought was a date night. He proposed at one of our favorite places - Hotel Bennett.

Tell us about finding your wedding dress!

I came across my dress on Instagram - fell absolutely in love site unseen and knew it was the one. The dress designer is based in Hawaii so it was either go there or see if the designer could ship to their only retailer on the East Coast. Mom and I flew to Brooklyn June 2021 where I tried on the dress for the first time! Fun fact: it’s actually two pieces- a top & skirt! I can’t wait to wear the top with high waisted pants for our first anniversary!

Describe your wedding flowers

Fabulous… Kim with August Floral nailed it. All my favorite flowers meshed into one. Poppies, Peonies, Hyacinth,  & Ranunculus

What advice would you give to a couple planning their wedding?

A shorter engagement- too much time to debate decisions! We had about a year & two months. Also, details are fabulous for pictures- but don’t stress *too* much about them along the way.

Most memorable moment?

Our first dance as husband & wife. Surprisingly I was so stiff and nervous! I didn’t expect this feeling, I typically would never be described as shy and in that moment I was. It was such an honor to dance with my husband in front of all of our friends and family.

What aspect of the wedding was the most important to you?

That our families felt comfortable and loved.

What's next for you two?

We are living happily in Bluffton SC- love the idea of starting a family in the coming few years!
