From the bride and groom… Despite growing up continents apart, Amy and Alex found each other in San Francisco. Amy had moved there from New York, having fallen in love with the West coast while shooting commercials. Alex had moved there from London following his dream to live under the blue California skies. They both ended up working at the same company, but it still took a dating app to make the first move. Fast forward a year or two and the couple were going from strength to strength, hike to hike. Then the test of the pandemic began, but cemented their bond. The isolation highlighted the need to take a break from the sleeping city. So they moved a few hours east to their shared love of nature near Lake Tahoe. Shortly after, they were engaged to be married, by the lake that had taken root in Amy’s heart so many years prior. Amy and Alex are a couple that value quality time, together and with friends. It was important to them to have an intimate gathering in a setting uniquely associated with their marriage for years to come. The couple wanted to select a place that mesmerised their guests as a gesture to their parents and friends who had supported them this far. Alex’s European background led to the suggestion of the beautiful south of France, somewhere Amy has always wanted to visit. That’s when they found Aurelie from Love & Provence. Shooting to get married as soon as practical to thread the needle of the waxing and waning pandemic waves, the couple spent hours on Zoom being guided and reassured by Aurelie’s experienced and tasteful hand. From vendor shortlisting to feedback on creative direction, every aspect of Aurelie’s wedding plan was meticulous. The entire event was signed off remotely, without the couple being able to travel to visit any vendors.
Aurelie more than delivered on the trust placed in her. Both Amy and Alex are in creative professions, and set ambitious goals for the styling and calibre of the event. Understated elegance and quality had to be around every corner, from the venue, to the spring florals, the live music, and the food. Amy chose a Lillian West dress of modest lace, to compliment the French dreamscape. Alex wore a tailored Ermenegildo Zegna suit to compliment the sandstone tones in the dress and chateau. The day of the event went without a hitch. Friends and family had flown in internationally to stay at Chateau de Tourreau and nearby properties to enjoy a collective holiday for the week. The atmosphere was relaxed and joyous, not least because of the stunning surroundings and delicious Provencal food and wine. While Alex and Amy got ready for their afternoon ceremony, guests relaxed in the grounds by the pool or at the picnic tables and relived the fun of the hosted cocktails the night before. Eventually the time came, with the small gathering seated in front of an immaculate floral arch framing the Chateau, for Amy to be accompanied down the aisle towards her groom.
Both were beaming as reality began to set in that all the planning and the years of dreaming were coming to a head. They each read their earnest vows with unwavering voices and eyes locked. The celebration had begun. Looking back at their big day, Amy recalls her favourite moment when, on the advice of a few close friends earlier in the year, they deliberately stepped away from the party for a few minutes to take in the view from afar and relish in the moment. Amy says she felt pure gratitude and joy, while in disbelief that their favourite people showed up in France to celebrate their union after years of being apart. It was a perfect night of dreams made real.
