Bringing the Indoors Out for This Nature Inspired Summer Wedding

These two Michigan natives celebrated the beauty of their home state in summer with every thoughtful detail. Their sun drenched ceremony surrounded by lush ferns and guests donning parasols made for the most ethereal setting. After the “I do’s”, it was time to head over to one of the most gorgeous tented receptions we’ve probably ever laid eyes on. Ann Travis Events and Katie Wachowiak quite literally brought the indoors out, decorating the space with sconces, custom wallpaper, comfy furniture, and a greenery adorned rattan lantern installation that made for a major “wow” factor. Michigan lovers through and through, Emily and Mike first met at University of Michigan when they discovered their dorm rooms were across the hall. A friendship soon formed and built over the semester before they decided to make things official. Years later, Mike surprised Emily by popping the question on a hiking trip with their new puppy. Emily, of course, said yes! Emily doesn’t remember everything Mike said, but remembers it was perfect.

For their wedding day, the couple took inspiration from their home state where their love grew and its beauty. Thought and care went into every small detail. The tented spaces featured comfy furniture and walls, complete with sconces, to have the feel of a home built overlooking the river. Custom wallpaper was modeled after the wallpaper in the original home on the property and used on the reception walls and the unique ceremony planters.

The escort cards highlighted different types of Michigan ferns – another homage to the property which is filled with beautiful ferns in the summer. With a greenery and rattan lantern installation suspended over the space, the dance floor was a huge statement piece.

Behind the band was a custom backdrop with framed hand-pressed flowers on a trellis background to further the nature theme. Their adorable pup Maizey also made an appearance, with a hidden painting on the back of the cake and their signature cocktail named the Maizey Mule.
