From Costola Photography... Our romantic yet modern wedding was inspired by butterflies. Butterflies are not only magnificent creatures, but they have a beautiful symbolism of hope, rebirth and life. From small and humble caterpillars, butterflies transform themselves into beautiful and colorful winged creatures. For many people butterflies have significance. In ancient Rome, butterflies represented marriage and weddings. And when two butterflies are seen flying together or following each other, it represents undying love.
Butterflies have such joyful colors and patterns that draw you to them, with this in mind we incorporated lush florals in shades of periwinkle, lavender, peach, butter yellow with greenery. We chose to feature a ceremony in the round, with florals coming up around the couple. Like butterflies, circles have beautiful meanings especially when it relates to marriage - unity, wholeness and completion. We carried over a similar style with the flowers down a dramatic tablescape. Place settings were a mix of modern and vintage for a great whimsical design. Completed with hand-written place cards in the shape of a butterfly.
Our shoot was set at the stunning Larz Anderson House, a Gilded Age Beaux-Arts style mansion located in Washington, DC. The Andersons used the home to entertain and showcase their impressive collection of fine art and artifacts that the couple acquired while traveling. In addition to their impressive home, their garden became one of the most published and influential landscapes in the early 20th century. We chose to set-up our shoot to highlight both the interior and exterior architecture at the Anderson House.
One of my favorite details was our petite gilded wedding cake with soft purple flowers. Proving that a cake doesn't need to be large to make a statement. I also loved the coordinated bouquets our brides carried with simple greenery and periwinkle buds. Our beautiful brides wore Margot by Ines Di Santo with an illusion back and statement bow. And a Romona Keveza jumpsuit with a Homs veil that we used as a detachable train.
