These two may have faces setback after setback in a sea of disappointments prior to their wedding day, but you’d never know it from the looks on their faces – pure bliss. Today’s couple just goes to show you, no matter what goes according to plan or completely awry, the only thing that matters when it all comes down to it is the love you and your S.O. share. Nicki and Meka tied the knot with the help of One Fine Day Events in front of 25 of their nearest and dearests in Lake Tahoe. Just wait until you see the floral installations created by B&B Designs – we can’t get enough of this full gallery captured by Mike Larson!
From the planner, One Fine Day Events… From postponing, to re-planning the entire wedding numerous times, to finding out their guest count had to be cut from 250ppl to 100 people and then to 25 just 9 days prior to the wedding, Nicki and Meka faced a sea of disappointments and setbacks with their wedding. But, when their wedding day finally arrived, nothing could wipe the beaming smiles from their faces and stop these two from celebrating their love. The couple originally planned to get married on June 27th, 2020 with 250 of their family and friends at the Hyatt in Lake Tahoe.
The initial date was so locked in place that the groom had it embroidered into his custom suit. But when COVID threatened the likelihood of this celebration from occurring, the couple went into postponement mode with their planner. A Saturday in August became available so the optimistic couple secured the date. During the days, weeks, and months leading up to their wedding, regulations frequently changed causing a new plan to the entire celebration every week. From different venue locations, to changes in the food and beverage service requirements, and floor plan rearrangements, every week brought new changes. It was unfortunately not the glamorous and exciting wedding planning process couples anticipate, but Nicki and Meka were determined to get married and persevered through every disappointment, curve ball, and let down. When their wedding day finally did arrive, there was so much built up emotion across the board.
From the family members who jumped through hoops to travel and were just so desperate to celebrate with these two special people, to the vendors who rode this rollercoaster trying to meet every regulation, every person present at this wedding was so invested in helping make this celebration happen. As their officiant, Everett, so beautifully said during the ceremony, “If flights were canceled and the roads were closed, we would have walked. We would have done anything to be here to celebrate with you two.” It was one of the most powerful and meaningful ceremonies we have ever witnessed leaving all of us with tears in our eyes and big smiles on our faces. From ‘fun facts’ about the couple on the cocktail napkins to the “LFG” neon sign that represented the groom’s favorite saying, “Let’s Go!”, to the bride dancing to Whitney & the groom taking the mic to serenade the group, the celebration may have been small but it was booming with laughter, so much joy, and incredible memories. The evening came to a close with a surprise video friends made for the couple featuring a message from every guest who wasn’t able to attend. The video was streamed virtually, giving all friends and family at home an opportunity to watch and enjoy the couple’s reaction.
We designed everything to be very COVID conscious and safe for both the guests and all vendors.
● Masks were worn by vendors at all times and guests wore their Nicki & Meka branded masks or face shields as they walked around. When they were seated, they didn’t have to wear masks and were only seated next to those in their household.
● The ceremony & dinner were both very spaced out and we assigned seats and tables to each guest, grouping households together. We were concerned that a large table of 2 people would feel awkward, but with an abundance of flowers to use and creative spacing, it actually was very comfortable and a beautiful setting.
● Dancing was not supposed to happen outside of the couple’s first dance, but as you can see in the photos, it was impossible to keep this wedding seated. Nicki stops at nothing to belt her heart out to Whitney, and as you can see, Meka is not shy to join her when he takes the mic and serenades the group
While we had to change a lot of the decor and plans many times, every change was so worth it to see the smiles on Nicki & Meka’s faces and feel their love. Some services and products weren’t able to be used so they will be applied to their 2021 wedding celebration, which is also scheduled to take place at the Hyatt.
