Who proposed? When and how?

From the bride… Joey proposed when we were on vacation in Maui at the Montage Kapalua on  May 25th, 2018. It was a complete and total shock. I thought we were going to dinner and instead, he lead me to the Cliff House at the Montage. It was covered in pink rose petals and candles at sunset. I was so thrown off I went to leave thinking we must be in the wrong place when instead he leads me to the balcony and proposed. Come to find out Joey had been planning this for months. Joey rented out the Cliff House at the Montage Kapalua or us for the night and planned for a private dinner with all my favorite foods and wine. He even had a hidden photographer to capture the proposal. It was so special.

How did you choose your wedding venue?

We were able to spend a weekend at the Montage Los Cabos before it officially opened with my parents, Aunt and Uncle. Joey and I really wanted a destination wedding at a venue that we could take over for a weekend and one that was very private and intimate. We didn’t just want a day, we wanted more of a full wedding weekend and vacation for all our friends and family. Both of us being California kids, we loved the idea of being by the water and both of us having spent time in Arizona we also loved the idea of the beauty of the desert. At the Montage Los Cabos you feel like you are in a beautiful desert oasis, and then you look out and you are on the beach/ocean! It was a place where the desert meets the ocean and it encompassed everything we had been looking for. The property was intimate and private and we loved the idea of being able to use multiple locations of the wedding day and also have a blank canvas since it was a new hotel.

How did you choose your table decor?

We wanted to have a simple, yet elegant vibe. So we choose to do multiple floral arrangements with a ton of candles.

What color scheme did you choose and why?

We stuck with neutral, monochromatic, vibes to embrace the property and the beauty of our surroundings.

What did you use as your escort cards and/or place cards?

We used custom Himalayan salt shot glasses with each guests’ first name calligraphed on them that were also used for a group tequila toast and as one of the take-home gifts for the guests. Swell Press also created beautiful printed pieces for each place setting that included a menu and letterpress name card bound together with twine and a tassel. In addition, we had individual rosebuds at each place setting.

What was your biggest splurge of the day?

The Veuve Clicquot champagne truck and the surprise firework show!

Describe your favorite moments!

1. Surprise Firework Show – We planned for a surprise firework show to happen during our first dance. However, once it came time to do the first dance we realized we completely forgot to practice the dance and the cue for the fireworks, so we were laughing through the whole thing and just trying to wing it. Joey dipped me for a kiss and instantly all of the lights went out so it was completely black, the firework show started while simultaneously ‘Higher Love’ by Kygo started playing and EVERYONE jumped to their feet and started dancing. It was a really cool moment and one that everyone still talks about.

2. Dinner – Both of us being foodies we wanted to create a dinner experience. We worked with the chef to create a four-course tasting menu that embraced Mexican culture and gave tribute to our destination: Modern Mexican Cuisine. We even accompanied the dinner with wines only from Mexico. Not allowing guests to choose their meal was somewhat of a gamble, but when it was dinner time everyone was blown away by the meal and service and we LOVED witnessing that moment.

If you could sum up your wedding day in one sentence, how would you describe it?

It was the most magical and perfect day of our lives.
