From Ellie Koleen Photography… Inspo/Venue: The Santa Barbara Historical Museum has so much character and architectural interest! When developing this concept, we knew we wanted to highlight some of those features- the neutral color palette with pops of peach, lush landscaping surrounding the building, terracotta tiling, wood beams and tiny details that feel like a glimpse into the past. Overall, we aimed to create an aesthetic that celebrated the design magic that is the Historical Museum, through a modern and playful approach.
Color palette: We created a color palette highlighting several earthy, natural shades- a mossy green, vibrant mustard yellow, muted burnt orange and deep burgundy/brown color complimented by subtle pops of blush pink, crisp whites and gold accents to keep it feeling fresh and modern.
Rentals: For our ceremony and dining chairs we select a gold, bentwood style. We love the way these chairs worked in contrast with the angular beams, tiles and overall rustic vibe of the museum. Their curved lines and matte metallic finish added a bit of glam, in a subtle way. To play up our modern aesthetic, we brought in a sleek white table, with gold legs. The tableware was kept simple yet intentional, including pale blush plates, a textured linen muted orange napkin, stemless beige glassware and gold flatware.
Florals: Because the majority of our design decisions highlighted our modern aesthetic and laid back Santa Barbara vibe, we wanted to use florals as our main statement piece- brining in tons of color, texture and an overall boho-playfulness. Of the Flower’s ceremony installation incorporated big succuclents and plants, highlighting the native landscaping, paired with bright pops of yellow and soft touches of pink. Our brides bouquet was full and diverse, utilizing unexpected textures. For our tablescape, Of the Flowers created two large arrangements that sat in terracotta vessels, comprised of large delicate blooms, Buddah’s hand and a variety of small textural accents that added tons of unexpected visual interest. Our centerpieces were paired with smaller vessels, that incorporated additional movement and whimsy to the tablescape.
