Does that mid-winter feeling have you craving long summer days? Don’t worry, we got you. Consider this wedding your daily dose of vitamin D, summer love and happiness. The bright, colorful blooms by Organic Flora made for a major statement against the sparkling blue Lake Tahoe water. Jenn Robirds Events dreamed up the most adorable, Pinterest-worthy escort display we’ve EVER seen (and we’ll probably be obsessing over it for the next few weeks to be honest.) Don’t miss out on all the dreamy details at the full gallery captured by Janine Licare Photography!
From Janine Licare Photography… Clare and Nick’s wedding took place on a beautiful Summer day in Lake Tahoe, California. Their wedding was filled with lots of bright florals, pretty details, and joyful colors, including peach tones, soft blues, pinks, oranges, and yellows that could be seen all throughout the day. When you think of “happy” colors, all of these probably come to mind. When it came to choosing a venue, they booked the West Shore Cafe, sight unseen! From Clare: “We didn’t kick into planning for 3-4 months after our engagement. We had taken a while to determine that Lake Tahoe would be the location. It was a difficult decision because we knew that most people would have to travel to the wedding and we knew it was a long flight. To us, it is the backdrop of our favorite memories with friends and family. It is where we’ve been able to get away from the stress of school and work to ski, hit the craps tables, float the river, and enjoy the views to reset. We were thrilled to share it with all of our guests and create more memories over the wedding weekend.
We started researching and a good friend with great taste said West Shore Cafe has some of the best food in North Lake Tahoe and you couldn’t beat the location or venue. When we called to see what dates were still available for Summer 2019, we were shocked that there were only 3 Saturdays left. One of those dates happened to be the day after my birthday. After Nick did research on the weather patterns for the various dates and checking our family’s calendars, we trusted our instincts and booked it sight unseen for July 13th, 2019. Exactly 1 year to the wedding, we did our first venue tour. When we walked through the main dining out onto the long dock over the clear blue lake with the surrounding mountains, we knew we had made the right decision. All of our worries melted away and we knew that even if all the details fell apart in the planning process – the view alone would make our wedding very memorable. As we continued through with the tasting, walking through the various parts of the venue – it felt just right. We knew if we were this delighted seeing it for the first time, all our guests would be too.
On the wedding day, Clare wore a simple A-line Dress by Carolina Herrera with bold floral lace overlay a unique fabric that had golden thread in the pattern of honeycomb. Her bouquet included white icelandic poppies, peach and pink ranunculuses, yellow zinnia, soft pink foxglove, soft blue tweedia, white astilbe, lisianthus, white peonies, Koko loko roses, garden roses and the only “greenery” element was bleached ruscus. It was perfect for Clare – a traditional lush floral only bouquet with a modern shape. It accented her lace gown beautifully. The bouquet also had two hand-dyed silk ribbons, a soft blue one and a sand-colored one. The two perfectly complemented the color palette of the day and were a stunning alternative to having a single ribbon. They contrasted each other beautifully. Many of these same flowers were used in the ceremony arch.
The bridesmaids wore Jenny Yoo dresses in various styles and shades of blue. For reception florals, they opted for low arrangements in alternated sizes and vessels down the linear farmtable tablescapes to create movement. They added gauze-like runners and soft blue china with stunning details along the rim. Letterpress menus pulled it all together with the epic venue rendering adorned on the bottom. Jenn Robirds sourced tumbled glass from Canada for the place cards for an understated detail that played to the bride’s love of sea glass. The terracotta candleholders were custom made specifically for this wedding to perfectly flow with the tablescape. Clare and her bridesmaids assembled wedding welcome boxes for guests. Each box included Toblerone (Switzerland engagement reference – where Nick proposed), Pellegrino (Nick’s favorite), Hangover Kit (Blowfish, Advil), Tahoe essentials (sunscreen/lip balm) Snacks (Cookie/Popcorn/Apples).
From Jenn Robirds…The invitation suite was a completely custom design by Little Bird Paper company. We wanted to showcase the venue in a fun way so we added a gorgeous line drawing to the invitation and had it letterpressed in a custom mixed blue ink. We added in some modern touches like a vellum map of the lake. To tie the suite together we used a paper with bark embossed details and closed it with a custom wax seal. The playfulness of the paper and the palettes of blues set the perfect tone for the wedding weekend.
From Clare and Nick, the bride and groom… We first met at Santa Clara University in September, 2007, when we were placed in the same freshman dorm. Clare “claims” on the first night of college Nick blew her off at a party… But that has never been confirmed. After playing the friend game for a year and a half, we finally got out of the “friend zone” and went on our first date to San Francisco on Valentines’ Day ’09 and shared a slice of Golden Boy Pizza in Washington Square Park. We never looked back and the rest is history. Fast forward 10 years later – February 2018 we ventured to Switzerland to visit our dear friend Jimmy Bennett who recently moved there and ski in the Swiss Alps. Of course, Clare’s parents couldn’t miss an opportunity to hit the slopes and joined us. Nick saw this as a perfect opportunity to pop the question. Throughout the trip, Nick was having trouble getting Jim alone to ask for permission but finally convinced the group to take a long T-bar. Midway through our last day of skiing, Nick flagged Clare down, mid-run by faking a boot issue. Under the Matterhorn, Nick got down on one ski pulled the ring off a carabiner and asked Clare to make it official. Shocked and relieved that Nick wasn’t actually hurt, Clare responded with “I guess so….” It also happened to be next to a small Chapel where Mothers with unmarried daughters go to pray.”
