Proof That a Non-Traditional Wedding Venue Is Key for a Wow-Worthy Wedding

Today’s gorgeous couple kicked tradition to the curb and decided to tie the knot in one of San Francisco’s most iconic museums – the Legion of Honor. SmittenKiss Weddings and Events knew exactly how to dress up the clean lines and historic charm of the building with speciality floral from Vo Floral Design and a neutral color palette with subtle pops of blue hues. Trust us people – the full gallery, captured by the always fabulous Jen Huang, is an absolute MUST.

From SmittenKiss Weddings and EventsNikki and Michael’s love started on the beautiful grounds of where they worked, Stanford University. While their love unfolded, so did their world travels. The couple trotted the globe while enjoying the finest cuisines from the most touted restaurants in the world. When they started the journey of wedding planning, they knew they wanted something timeless, something artful and something classic. It was important that 15 years from now, they would look back and still feel the elegance of each detail.

Michael placed emphasis on the venue, while Nikki placed emphasis on the photography, but both agreed the ambiance found in the environment, the robust flavors of food and the decorative elements to be just as important. The Legion of Honor is one of the most beautiful and iconic museums in San Francisco. Just looking at the columns and the courtyard’s clean lines, one is captivated by the powerful silence surrounding the facility.

The couple paid attention to every aspect of their wedding. The level of detail down to the color of textiles, the aromatic lavender and yuzu flavors of the mocktails and how each stem of floral and fig was placed, was not dismissed. Though we knew September was welcoming fall, unlike the east coast California doesn’t quite get the autumn swept streets, but we created a heavenly foliage backdrop for the couple. We didn’t want to get lost in a muted palette and so blue hues found it’s way into the picture. Specialty floral and cheese gauze runners were strategically placed.

It was an honor to plan and design their wedding. We worked with an wonderful group of talented vendors and will be forever grateful for the magic that happened that evening. Setting up a wedding of that caliber on restricted time was a challenge but the team as a whole was beyond amazing, and the evening produced a glorious result.
