What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?
I envisioned an outdoor Fall wedding, surrounded by our closest friends and family. Fall has always been my favorite season – there is a crispness to the air, but often times, it is accompanied with the most beautiful of clear and sunny days. The colors of the trees are gorgeous, and it brings this sense of warmth and coziness to everything. I knew that when the time came, I would ask my future hubby if he was onboard for a Fall wedding, too… and lucky for me, he was! I wanted our wedding to be embraced by all of the beauty and warmth that is ‘Fall’.
What was your color palette and your style vision?
For a color palette, I envisioned everything clean and neutral, while still incorporating some beautiful, rich colors of Fall. Lots of greenery, white, blush and nude tones, along with mixed metals and tons of gold accent pieces. For the flowers and bridesmaid dresses, I wanted to do something a little richer in color. This is where I incorporated colors such as dusty rose and a deep burgundy.
What was your favorite moment?
There were so many favorite moments, but if I were to pick just a few, these would be my top three. Getting ready with my mom, mother-in-law, and best friends will forever go down in history as a favorite memory. I feared that I would be too nervous that morning, to take in all the special moments around me, but I was pleasantly surprised. I had the best time chatting, laughing and sharing in happy tears with my favorite women by my side. I also loved my ‘first look’ with my dad; it was one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments that you always look forward to and will forever cherish. And lastly, but certainly not least, I loved the moment I walked down the aisle to my future husband. There is nothing in the world like having your dad wrap his arm around you as you walk towards the man of your dreams. I will never forget how overwhelmed with joy I was in that moment, and just how lucky I felt to have the best men in my life.
Your favorite crafted detail?
My mom created the most beautiful gifts for me, that followed the “something new, something blue & something borrowed” theme, and they were hands down some of the most thoughtful pieces to my wedding.
‘Something New’- My parents surprised me with a beautiful diamond bracelet, a piece I will always wear and cherish.
‘Something Blue’- my husband loved his high school football days, and in honor of that, my mom got her hands on a football from his high school and had it signed by one of the players who went on to play D1 college ball. She then created a beautiful garter for me to wear, laced with blue ribbon, that would later be stretched around the football and tossed into the crowd of single men. It was such a cute idea!
‘Something Borrowed’- my mom created the most gorgeous ring bearer pillow out of lace from her wedding dress. I loved that a piece of my mom & dad’s wedding day was incorporated into our big day, it was so special.
Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.
I had the absolute best wedding planner! Her eye for detail is unmatched, and she worked so diligently to create everything I had ever envisioned and more. The florals were all created by her, too, and we worked to incorporate fresh flowers just about everywhere we could think of! I loved how organic, yet elegant everything felt. Twinkle lights dropped down from all of the trees, and it felt so cozy and intimate throughout dinner and toasts. It was truly magical, and I felt as though I was walking around in a beautiful garden.
I also enjoyed creating fun little details, to add to the ambiance. One of my favorite items was a lounge area with soft seating, complete with a beautiful draped backdrop, laced in greenery and roses. People could enjoy a glass of wine, sit and mingle with each other, and I loved that.
When it came to my dress, I always envisioned something timeless in shape and style. I enjoyed it’s silhouette shape, with v-neckline, and just the right touch of lace. I felt as though it had personality and simple beauty, but remained a good balance of modern and classic. I embellished with gold jewelry & shoes, which is one of my favorite accent colors.
What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?
Take it all in, and don’t sweat the small stuff. This can sometimes be easier said than done, but the reality is, you only get to do this day once. When it comes to planning out all of the little details, and designing your dream day, enjoy it. But let those details and hours of planning fit within the weeks and months leading up to your big day. When it comes time for your wedding weekend, or those few days leading up to the big day, be sure to refocus. You are getting married, and the people and memories that will surround you on that special day are irreplaceable. For us, we loved getting married in eastern Washington because it was just far enough to create the ‘destination’ feel, with only being a 4-5 hour drive. There is something about packing your bag, getting in the car, and driving away from the planning and checklists. It allows you to stop, breathe and take it all in.
