A timeless blush, green and white color scheme, a reception under a sprawling sailcloth tent and a view of the harbor… AKA the perfect ingredients for a charming, quintessential New England wedding. We couldn’t be more smitten with this stunning lakeside affair at the Basin Harbor. Rodeo & Co captured all the must-see moments while Nector & Root decorated the day in lush blooms, bringing the bride’s garden wedding dreams to life! The night ended with a bang thanks to a magical fireworks show (and Vermont creemees, of course!) Keep on reading to see the day unfold…
From the Bride and Groom… We had our dream wedding weekend at Basin Harbor, a picturesque resort nestled alongside Vermont’s Lake Champlain. All our guests stayed on-site at the venue, either in quaint lakeside cottages or the historic main lodge. As avid organizers, we planned activities throughout the weekend for our guests, showcasing our love of itineraries and Vermont.
The wedding weekend started on Lake Champlain aboard The Escape for a cocktail cruise. Later that night, everyone gathered for a Lobster Bake welcome dinner, dressed in their best British-themed hats and fascinators, a nod to Jonny’s English heritage. Prizes were awarded to guests with the best headgear.
Our wedding day commenced early the following morning with a friend-led yoga class in the Orchard Garden, followed by a touch rugby game—no tackling of the groom allowed!
Our outside ceremony had a garden theme, with a focus on flowers and green leafy plants. Our (rather large…!) wedding parties dazzled in light pink gowns and tuxedos. Time stood still, as we enjoyed a thoughtful speech by our best friend and officiant, Ashley, and emotional vows we wrote ourselves. Our friends shared readings, including an amusing collection of marriage advice we had requested guests write on their invitation RSVP cards.
After the ceremony, we took off on a getaway boat for a few private moments together. Upon returning to land for the cocktail hour, a stunning sunset unfolded, an unexpected treat.
Our wedding reception was held outside on the main lawn under a sailcloth tent. After a quick outfit change, we surprised our guests with two choreographed dances—a slow dance to “Coming Home” by Leon Bridges, followed by a more upbeat swing dance to “Sh-Boom,” by the Crew Cuts. From then on, our guests barely left the dance floor, until a surprise firework show over the harbor. The night was capped off with sparklers, classic Vermont creemees, a bonfire, and an after party at Basin Harbor’s local bar, The Red Mill. A Sunday farewell brunch culminated our perfect weekend.
