When modern and boho designs collide – the result is bound to be amazing. This adorable couple wed with a little help from LB Event Planning & Design at one of our fave desert venues: The Parker Palm Springs. The bride stunned in her romantic Alon Livne gown next to her dusty blue bridesmaids. Stella Bloom Designs made their floral dreams a reality with textured arrangements of bold pops of color and leafy greenery. See the day unfold at the full gallery captured by This Modern Romance!
From the Bride… Who knew a boy from the rainy city and a girl from the desert would find each other? We crossed paths at college in Orange County through a mutual friend and with a little liquid courage we started talking. Our first kiss was on a roller rink at a date party and that’s where it all began. Living in Los Angeles and 5 years into our relationship, Justin proposed to me while hiking in Malibu, it was very early in the morning, beautiful, private and perfect. We started planning the wedding in the car ride home.
We both knew we wanted a fall wedding and quickly settled on Palm Springs as the destination. Justin and I had our first trip there together early in our relationship and it has always held special memories for us. When we went to the Parker Palm Springs and toured the Gene Autry House – it felt like the place for us. The beauty of the property lent itself to an endless opportunity of design concepts. Shannon, the hotel’s event manager, was a delight and made the decision all the more easier! The first vendor that we locked in was our incredible photographer, Stephanie Williams at This Modern Romance. We were immediately drawn to the light she captured in her photographs and knew that she had to be the one to document our wedding day.
Moving forward, we found our wedding planners, LB Events, through the Parker and felt that based on their portfolio they would be the perfect match to help us execute our dream wedding. Emily Bruza from LB was a dream to work with and helped us find the rest of our incredible team. Justin also took on a huge portion of the planning – working hand-in-hand with our vendors to make sure our own renditions were conveyed perfectly. His organizational skills were pivotal in making our dream wedding a reality.
As we created the ambience of the day, we took things in a modern bohemian direction – gold, ivory, green, maroon and grey comprised our color palette. Dark woods, mixed textures, and leafy greenery with pops of color rounded out our design touches. Signature Rentals worked closely with us to make sure that we had everything we could possibly need to create the aesthetic – from linens to lighting to bar-tops. We can’t forget Amy at Stella Bloom Designs, who did an amazing job bringing my floral vision to life, which really elevated and brought together the decor. We’d spoken many times over the year-and-a-half process, each time taking helping me refine my vision and executing it to perfection.
During what is always an exciting but stressful search for the dress, I tried on over 30 different gowns before finding the one (thank goodness for a very patient mom, dad and bridesmaids)… at my last scheduled fitting I was lucky enough to stumble upon a trunk show by Israeli designer, Alon Livne, who happened to be in the bridal salon that day. He made the process a breeze and built me a custom dress in front of my eyes – altering the color and and adding a train. It was unexpected and more than I could’ve hoped for.
Justin searched long and hard for the perfect tuxedo – but ultimately came to the conclusion that the quality of a custom garment would be so worth it. He found Articles of Style that specializes in custom menswear made in America who expertly crafted him a one-of-a-kind tuxedo for the big day.
One of the most special elements of the day were our rings. My dad gifted us his parents’ and grandparents’ wedding bands – which represent over 120 years of marriage combined. We entrusted the rings with Balian & Sons in Los Angeles who designed our wedding bands from the gold. It means so much to have our family’s love and legacy entwined with our marriage for the rest of our lives.
Finally, something our guests couldn’t stop raving about was the music! We were lucky enough to book Matt Gudis from Who’s That DJ who handled music for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. Friends were quite literally asking – “Who’s that DJ?”, proving that the name certainly fits. The dance floor was packed, the drinks were flowing and we loved seeing everyone enjoy the day as much as we did!
While recounting our big day in a few paragraphs can make it seem flawless, we can assure you that the process was anything but. As with planning any wedding, there will be times of both frustration and joy, but at the end of it all it’s the decades to come that matter more than the font on your menu.
