A Festive Floral-Filled Charleston Wedding at Lowndes Grove

I don’t think I’ve ever met a wedding at Lowndes Grove that I didn’t like. To me, it is quintessential Charleston. The arms of the Spanish Moss trees dance with the nearby palms for the most charming photos, that Catherine Ann so beautifully honored here. With a stunning setting secured, Pure Luxe Bride helped bring the Bride & Groom’s vision to life and oh, is it Southern to a T.

From Catherine Ann PhotographyEllyn & Richard got married on Cinco de Mayo (their go-to restaurant choices are usually Mexican spots) with a beautiful head table full of hanging flowers. They served chips & guac with margaritas during the cocktail hour and also had an oyster & cigar bar down by the water.

From the bride Ellyn… We met just after college at a happy hour at Sweetwater Brewery in Atlanta. We had both just graduated from Emory and were both athletes there but our paths didn’t cross until after graduation!

One of our favorite moments was just before dinner – Richard and I had been talking and mingling with all our friends and family but found a minute alone together. We went upstairs at Lowndes Grove to the front balcony that overlooked the property. We could see everyone and everything going on from up there and were able to have just a couple minutes alone together and take it in that we were actually married!

The bridesmaids wore sandstone dresses by Watters. They all wore the same color but an array of different styles.

Richard is from Raleigh, NC and I grew up in Victor, NY, but we live in Atlanta now. My parents moved to Charleston about 5 years ago and Richard and I have visited quite a bit over that time. We have so many good memories there and Richard actually proposed at the Battery. So when we started looking for wedding locations & venues, Charleston just felt right to us!

We loved Lowndes Grove and all of its natural beauty so we wanted to just build on that with light colors and greenery. We wanted to do something unique for the head table and had a seen a couple pictures of floral walls behind head tables that we loved, but we were doing our head table in the middle and wanted a way to do something similar. Our wedding planners at Pure Luxe Bride helped us figure out how to make that vision come to life with the floral overhang and we love how it turned out!

Our wedding was on cinco de mayo which was perfect because we love mexican food, so we had margaritas, ceviche, & guacamole during cocktail hour to play off our wedding date! My family is very Polish so we had to have a polka played during the reception which was so much fun! The most special touch of all was when Richard surprised me and played the vocals of Ed Sheeran’s Thinking out Loud on his violin with the band!
