Whimsical Wedding with a Neutral Color Palette at The Athenaeum

I can see it now… the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of this stunning Bride & Groom will be flipping through their wedding album, in awe of not only the pure gorgeousness that took place on this day—but of the love that is pouring from each and every image captured by Valorie Darling. That’s why six years later, I’m not tired of weddings. Each one is it’s own, no two are the same, and every story is beautifully unique. Join me, for this one.

From the Bride… Andrew and I met due to the most reliable method of dating – a blind set up, of course! I desperately needed a date to my college sorority invite, and my lab partner was insistent he knew the perfect person for me to take. I met Andrew for lunch before the invite, and he spent the time listening to me nervously talk about my love for chocolate chip cookies, which he claims he found adorable. Once at the invite, we quickly discovered all the random things we had in common – it isn’t often you find another 21 year old who’s favorite show is Frasier – and the rest was history. Andrew and I live in Pasadena, my hometown, and were excited to find our dream venue there at the Athenaeum. The Mediterranean arches and columns gave the space so much character, and worked perfectly with my vision for a romantic evening outdoors. Since we are both “old souls,” Andrew and I shared a desire for a timeless wedding that didn’t feel dated when we looked back on it for years to come. Luckily, I found Leslie Kaplan from Encore Events online, and connected with photos from her previous events. She instantly understood the look I wanted, and worked with me to create a neutral color palette with tulle and an abundance of flowers to create a fairy tale – the wedding of my dreams with every detail perfectly captured by Valorie Darling Photography!
