Classic All White Wedding at Sherwood Country Club

From the bride… James and I met four years ago as we both were working at the same company. I had quit my “fancy” job in the fashion industry and was now unemployed still living at my parent’s house. My dad made me take this job at an insurance agency, and needless to say, I was kicking and screaming. This was the exact opposite of my fashion job and I did not want to work there. However, little did I know that taking this job, I would end up meeting my future husband.

I recall one of my first days at work- I was at my desk and I could hear James’ loud, booming voice on the phone with a client. I remember being so impressed with how he handled himself on the phone. He was so knowledgeable of insurance and I could tell he truly cared about making sure his client was taken care of. After that, I was introduced to him and I remember I checked to see if he was wearing a wedding band as I thought he was a lot older than me and he had to have been married. I do remember feeling relived to learn he was the same age as me, still in his 20’s. It’s funny to think that I was the one to put a wedding band on him. Fast forward, we started dating, got different jobs and moved in together. After 3 years of dating, he surprised me with a trip to Napa. James is not one for planning trips, so I knew something was up. We were at a vineyard walking around with our wine and James was dead silent. From that, I knew he was planning to propose right here as I could feel his nervousness. I then was extremely nervous too, so both of us were walking around in silence like total strangers. He then found an area where no one was and he got down on one knee and popped the question. I was so excited and relieved that we could go back to being ourselves and the nerves were over!

I immediately stated wedding planning and working on my vision. It was important to me to have a wedding that was timeless and classic. I love white as I feel it’s so fresh and clean and I would have totally had an all-white wedding. But I ended up incorporating some blush and champagne to add some dimension. My venue, Sherwood Country Club, really played a huge role in my vision. The club is the definition of traditional and classic with its red brick and white columns – so I really wanted to play off that. I was having a hard time finding a dress that fit the bill as I kept trying on princess style dresses that just didn’t seem right.

I finally stumbled upon this classic, all satin, elegant dress and knew this was the type of dress I wanted. I paired it with this gold metal Romona Keveza belt and I loved the overall look! However, this dress was not the “one”, but I knew the belt was. From here, I kept trying on similar dresses in this style and the belt was the necessary accessory that had to work. I think it was a little untraditional to pick out your belt first, but I loved it so much! It gave me Charlotte York, Upper East Side vibes, that I just loved. After, trying on countless of dresses in this traditional style, I found the one from Estee Couture and the belt fit perfectly. My dress made me feel confident and fashionable. With this classic dress and classic venue, I knew that James also had to look the part as well. I immediately knew I wanted him to wear an ivory dinner coat instead of the traditional black. There was something just so elegant about this, that I loved! Now that I nailed down our attire, I added in champagne and gold details to my vision to play off the belt.

My invitations had a bold gold border, there were gold chivari chairs, champagne napkins, gold easels and my bridesmaids wore Jenny Yoo champagne dresses as well. I was happy to see everything come together and it looked so beautiful and nothing was over the top! I had a fear that my wedding was going to read too gold, but it didn’t at all! At the end of the day, all I really wanted was my guests to enjoy themselves in a pretty setting as James and I danced the night away as husband and wife and we did just that!
