From Amy Fanton Photography… This American couple met in Washington DC, got engaged while living in London, UK, and tied the knot in an intimate celebration in the French countryside of the Loire Valley!
The couple initially stumbled upon Chateau Courcelles Le Roy on Airbnb while looking for a place that could accommodate as many guests as possible, as so many of them were coming from so far away. They Chateau was perfect as it offered beautiful natural scenery including walking trails, a private chapel, a lake, and gardens.
The bride chose an elegant Maggie Sottero gown with lace detail and a keyhole back, complimented with a braided updo by Storme Webster and fresh, natural makeup by Sylwia Kunsz. Dusty blue suede shoes served as the bride’s ‘something blue’ and tied her look her look into the overall color scheme.
The styling for the wedding was inspired by the rustic greenery of the French countryside. Thistle, succulents, white wax flowers and berries were complimented with a palette of dusty blue, geometric copper details and wooden elements, to give an elegant, modern feel. Chandeliers were adorned with natural greenery to bring in as much of the countryside as possible, with the goal of creating a warm and natural environment without being overly elaborate or distracting.
The blue and copper stationery from Franchette Atelier took cue from French wine labels and used a blend of text and calligraphy. Franchette Atelier also created a beautiful sign that was displayed during the ceremony encouraging guests to turn off their phones and mobile devices. The guests were treated to luggage tags that doubled as escort cards and favors with the words ‘Bon Voyage!’.
Involving their guests in the wedding was very important to the couple. The groom’s grandfather officiated the ceremony, and during the ceremony guests passed and braided a rope as a symbol of their support of the couple’s marriage. The couple finished off the braid and mounted it onto a wooden board, which is now displayed in their home. The couple also displayed photographs from their guests’ own weddings, thanking them for their example and honouring all of their marriages (some as long as 65 years!).
