A Backyard Vermont Wedding with Homemade Maple Syrup Favors

Backyard weddings are the best! But when your backyard is a family farm… well, it’s even better. As you’ll see — Lauren and Steven’s Vermont wedding was filled to the brim with the kind of joy you experience once in a lifetime! Their smiles are contagious — the details, delightful. With planning by Katydyd Events, florals from Petals Floral Design and images from Rodeo & Co. that caught every last smile… from cowgirl boots to kisses, this one, is a keeper!

From Katydyd Events… Lauren and Steven were married August 11th in Strafford, Vermont. Their ceremony took place on Lauren’s family’s’ tree farm, the Churchill Tree Farm. The farm has been in the Fischelis’ family for over 80 years! It was the family’s dream for children, grandchildren, friends and family to gather there and celebrate beautiful moments, just like Steven and Lauren’s wedding day…

Lauren wore a Maggie Sottero gown that she made into two different looks. She began with a full-length slip for the ceremony but changed into a shorter version for the reception to show off her sparkly cowboy boots. She carried a textured, blush bouquet wrapped in a handkerchief belonging to her great grandmother. Over 100 years old! Her bouquet was filled with locally sourced dahlias provided by Petals Floral Design.

After the two exchanged vows and celebrated with a kiss, they drove off in her great grandfather’s jeep! Their guests followed suit to make their way to the reception, but not before, grabbing a Lynchburg Lemonade. The couple’s favorite drink from their time spent together at Roanoke College in Virginia.

Their reception was filled with the most heartfelt moments, from the father of the bride speech to Lauren’s brother singing the first dance song for the newlyweds. Their day was picturesque and filled with meaning that was effortlessly captured by Rodeo & Co. Photography.

The reception began in the gorgeous barn of the Inn, where guests enjoyed Bellini’s while they snapped polaroid pictures for the couple’s guest book. They placed their words of congratulations in wooden card box (made by the groom) carved with their custom logo. The logo, drawn by the groom and curated by Gus and Ruby Letterpress that adorned their invitations, favors, and napkins, combined all the loves of Steven and Lauren: the home states of the bride and groom, Massachusetts and Virginia. A horseshoe for the bride’s passion for horses and a tree to represent the Churchill Tree Farm.

Guests were guided to their seats by a chicken-wire escort cards where the tables were a mix of farm tables and rounds draped with flax linens provided by Peak Event Services. The centerpieces, provided by Petals Floral Design, alternated between pops of pink and blush floral arrangements and candles wrapped in wreaths. Table decor was completed with a Maple Syrup favor, which was made the previous winter by the bride’s uncle. It was made from the sap of trees on the farm and bottled special for their wedding.

All the desserts were made by the bride’s mom and grandmother! Lauren’s mom, Lori, owns her own bakery, the Sweetest Batch, who handmade a mix of mini cheesecakes, cupcakes, and cookies. A salty late snack of French fries and pizza were offered along with the delectable sweets. The Marsels band kept every single person on the dance floor for the entire night! The sentimental night was completed when the bride’s sister and brother sang “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” It was the perfect summer wedding.
