Glittery & Gorgeous Same-Sex Wedding Filled with Pure Love
My number one priority with this new SMP, is in taking care to build a site where everyone – no matter your age, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, budget or beliefs – feels at home. When I came across Kate and Maya’s breathtakingly beautiful wedding over on Jackson Grant’s insta feed, I basically begged to share it with you guys. Because of course, it’s beautiful. But also because it represents everything that we are and want to be. Love, pure and simple. Beauty, in its most basic form. Celebration at its finest. Click through the gallery to see so many more exquisite moments from this incredible day.
How did you want your wedding to feel? We were aiming for relaxed, fun, effortless, joyful, emotional, elegant and most of all filled with love.
What was most important element that you achieve for your wedding? Honestly we only had 3 months to plan it. We were going to elope, but then the vote to legalize gay marriage in Australia passed so we decided to get married here. We feel incredibly lucky to have worked with such brilliant people on our big day, especially our celebrant Megan Thompson and our photographer, Jackson Grant.
If your wedding were a movie, which one would it be? Bridesmaids. Our best men got a bit competitive.
Were there any unique details that you can tell us about? Maya is Polish and we included a polish blessing in our wedding celebration. Maya’s parents welcomed us – the newlyweds as a couple to the reception – with a tray of bread and salt (symbolising property and the preservation of our love) and two shot glasses – one with vodka and one with water. Both glasses were disguised and whichever of the newlyweds drinks the vodka is said to rule the roost. Kate won:)
Did you say your own vows? We wrote our own vows, which was very important to us. We loved working with Megan on our ceremony, she helped us with our vows and custom wrote our entire ceremony. Our family and friends made special effort to approach us about our beautiful the ceremony was and how it so perfectly and uniquely told our love story.
Any regrets? None – it was perfect.
How about a tip for others planning their wedding right now? Go with your gut, don’t overthink it, make sure you are as relaxed as possible in the lead up. Everyone that we worked with – the venue, Jackson, Megan, our hair and make up team were absolutely flawless in their style, approach, character and energy. So I guess, pick the best people, is the best advice we can offer.
Any favorite vendors? (links below) We could not recommend Jackson Grant, our photographer, highly enough. He was an absolute gem. Such beautiful energy to have by our side on the day and we couldn’t be happier with our photos.
For hair, we hired Fake Blonde. Claire is an absolute legend and brilliant stylist. Our makeup was done by Marie Poulos and we’ve both never felt or looked more beautiful.
Viv’s bouquet and flower arrangements by Flos Botanical. were breathtaking
And we could not praise Megan Thompson, our celebrant enough. Our ceremony was perfect – the entire room was in tears and our guests have made a special effort to let us know that the ceremony was unique, joyous and perfectly told our love story.
And while not a vendor, Kate’s Dad served as our transportation. He even put rainbow flags on the car for us! it for us.
Lastly, our ring designer, Katherine Bowman. She is a bespoke designer in Melbourne and we love her aesthetic. She made the experience of designing both our wedding and engagement rings incredibly special.
