A Hilltop Wedding Inspired by The Couple's European Honeymoon

Italy, Spain and France all played a starring role in this Malibu celebration captured by Joel Serrato. After planning a dream honeymoon to these very spots, the Bride and Groom utilized their travel plans as inspiration for their wedding day. The result is an elegant alfresco affair with effortless European flair designed by Sarah Park Events, along with florals by Oak and the Owl and rose quartz hued stationery by Kelsey Malie Calligraphy. From the bride....Eric and I met as seniors in high school at an accepted students’ preview weekend at UCLA. As a San Francisco native, I never imagined that I would meet the love of my life in Southern California that fateful weekend. We danced the night away at a social organized for the prospective students and exchanged numbers the next day. We became best friends and before departing for college (Eric ultimately attended UCLA while I studied in the Bay Area), Eric asked me to be his girlfriend in San Francisco on August 08, 2009. A little over six years later and many flights travelled back and forth between Northern and Southern California, Eric asked me to be his wife with a very romantic proposal at the campus where we met on December 12, 2015.

We searched for our reception venue first, considering various locations across California. As soon as we visited Malibu Rocky Oaks Estate Vineyards, we knew we had found the perfect place for us. The Tuscan inspired hilltop villa captivated us with its stunning architecture, beautiful infinity pool and impressive helicopter pad, among other features. With its 360-degree views of the surrounding vineyards and impressive mountains, MRO felt like heaven on earth. Eric immediately agreed that the mansion from “The Hangover 3” film was “the one.” Once we had our reception venue, we searched for the perfect Church to have our Catholic ceremony. Mission San Fernando Rey de España enchanted us with its rich history and Spanish architecture. From the large courtyard to the ornate altar inside the Church, we felt lucky to be married in the historic 17th California Mission.

Eric and I decided to get married on August 07, 2016, the day before our 7th Year Anniversary. Inspired by our upcoming honeymoon to France, Spain and Italy, we chose most elements of our wedding (cuisine, florals, paper goods, etc.) with the effortless European lifestyle in mind. We knew we wanted to have an intimate and romantic celebration. To bring our vision to life, we formed a fantastic team of wedding professionals with great love and dedication.

Our vendors were not only incredibly talented, but also kind and sweet. It was a dream come true to be photographed by the amazing Joel Serrato, whom we connected with instantly. On our wedding day, we felt like Joel and his wonderful assistant Patrick Quezada were family. Sarah Park of Sarah Park Events and Design was the greatest help during the wedding planning process. Sarah was the Stylist and Designer of the wedding, working closely with us and our vendors to execute every detail to perfection. Nancy Teasley of Oak and the Owl Event and Floral Design Studio surpassed my wildest expectations with her organically romantic and lush arrangements in colors of white, creams and rose quartz. She used the most stunning flowers from her farm, Ella Rose Farm. Kelsey Carpenter of Kelsey Malie Calligraphy created soft and romantic invitations, programs, menus, and all other paper goods on the most beautiful handmade Spanish paper, Arpa. It was a true honor to have an opportunity to work with creatives such as Joel, Sarah, Nancy and Kelsey.

Catering company Urban Palate helped us create the most delicious and beautiful menu, from the first hors d’oeuvre to the final late night snack. When we discussed my love for avocados at our first tasting, Urban Palate surprised me by adding fresh avocado slices to our already mouthwatering salad. Those little details are the ones we will never forget. Janet Villa did my hair and makeup for the engagement session and on the day of the wedding, and was an absolute pleasure to work with! Classic Event and Tent Rentals, Found Vintage Rentals and La Tavola Fine Linen Rental worked with us to ensure that we had all the necessary and gorgeous rentals we desired. Casa de Perrin helped us curate the most stunning tabletops. Every item was carefully selected thanks to the Casa team and Sarah. Cindy Lee of SweetLee Made created the most perfect four tier fondant cake with olive branches by Nancy and styling by Sarah. Décor Events Services took care of lighting and displayed our monogram on the center of the dance floor. Diego Hellewell with VOX DJs had all our guests dancing until the end of the night with the most fun music and entertainment. Fortunately, Ryan Davis of Cloudless Weddings was there to film our entire day with his awesome assistant, Daly Ol, and their drone camera! Berlanti Azhak with The Elegant Ninja planned and coordinated with these and other wonderful vendors.

Planning and executing a wedding takes a village, but when that village is comprised of the best and most thoughtful set of experts, the process is an exciting one and the results are incredible. Eric and I feel very fortunate to have married one another in front of our closest family and friends. We will never forget our first dance on the helicopter pad as our guests watched from above or the late summer breeze we felt as we dined al fresco. We have so many moments on our special day to be grateful for and so many wonderful family, friends and vendors to thank for making August 07, 2016 the best day of our lives so far!
