Bride Dons Pink Reception Dress for Romantic Lowcountry Wedding

Every now and again, I get the urge to look at homes down South… the warm breezes, the charm, the hospitality—would all be so nice year round. That urge typically happens when I’m over the New England winter weather (right about now) and when soirees like this one from Birds of a Feather Events cross my desk. It’s the epitome of a Southern wedding with a sweet twist—the Bride dons THE most gorgeous pink reception dress. Too good! Charla Storey snapped it all up beautifully and if you’re craving the sweet South too, you can join me for the whole thing right here.

Gina and Ryan were married in the May River Chapel at Montage Palmetto Bluff in front of 32 of their nearest and dearest. The bride wore a white Anna Maier lace dress for the ceremony and the couple recessed to the sounds of a Gullah choir – a complete surprise for all of the guests! Gina notes this as being her favorite moment of the day. Cocktails and bites were on the lawn next to the chapel and overlooking the Harbor River as Gina and Ryan took photos and she changed into her pink Marchesa reception dress. Guests transitioned to the River House in the town square as the sun set to enjoy a four course dinner on the screened in porch and later dancing in the adjacent ballroom.

Gina’s biggest priority for the wedding was to really cater to her guests who had mostly traveled from Dallas to be there, so we carefully curated elaborate welcome gifts and planned events leading up to the day including a boat ride down the river on a 100 year old yacht, a welcome dinner with an oyster roast and lowcountry boil, and a day at the shooting range and whiskey tasting for the men as the women enjoyed brunch and spa treatments. On the day of the wedding, each guest was given a boutonniere or corsage so that each felt like an honored guest. Gina truly trusted my vision for her wedding and allowed me to move forward with a neutral color palette knowing it would fit the venue and atmosphere she was trying to create best. Gina is a lover of bright colors and has an eclectic personal style, but Palmetto Bluff is the epitome of the Lowcountry. It sits right on the Harbor River and with it’s cottages designed in a classic Southern style and it’s coastal vibe, we decided that shades of sage green, soft pink, light blue, oatmeal, and pops of copper and bronze would fit into the landscape the best. (Don’t fret, a month later we hosted a reception back in Dallas for 150 of their nearest and dearest and bright colors ruled the night!)
