From Simply Sera Events… Kimberly Kweon and Kenneth Lee met through mutual friends and bonded over their mutual love of sports. They’re known as the sports-loving couples and Ken’s friends are all envious that his girlfriend (wife now!) loves sports just as much as he does and would never get on his case about watching too much sports or hogging the tv. Their favorite pastime activity is to attend any sports games, especially baseball and basketball, and they’re always participating in some Fantasy sports. Given their love for sports, it was a natural decision to design their wedding with a sports theme in mind. Though Kim considers herself more of a tom-boy, she wanted an tasteful and beautiful wedding with subtle sports elements. She wanted a bit more masculinity rather than the pinks and golds she’s seen everywhere and she wanted to make it truly special and memorable by incorporating Christmas as well. Some of the details include a real Christmas tree with three burlap banners with the phrases “Merry Christmas”, “Joy to the World”, and “Faith, Hope, Peace” wrapped around the tree. Guests were encouraged to sign an ornament with marriage advice or well wishes and then decorate the couple’s first tree as Mr. & Mrs! Cinnamon sticks, cedar garlands, and pinecones were displayed on the gifts table, seating cards display, and sweetheart table as Christmas decorations. A personalized clear ornament filled with either a eucalyptus leaf, mini pine cone, a mini bell, or red berries was placed at every place setting. Kim’s favorite sport is baseball and Ken’s favorite sport is basketball. They didn’t want to pick one particular sport for their theme, so we used general sports elements such as trophies for flower vases and incorporated wood, leather, and burlap. We did, however, rent vintage baseball balls, gloves, and large leather balls. The individual seating cards were designed to look like sports ticket and they were displayed in a vintage cubby. Kim and Ken also chose to include their Korean culture and participated in the Korean tea ceremony called “pae-baek” during cocktail. Kim and Ken changed into the traditional garments called “han-bok” and greeted each side of the family, then caught chestnuts and walnuts after toasting with them and receiving blessings.
