A Soccer Star + Fashion Blogger Share Their Stylish Wedding

You might recognize Ashley from her blog, Fashion Meets Futbol and today we’re seeing how she translated that eye for style to her California wedding. Ashley wed her soccer star love, Luis at Sunstone Vineyard and it’s filled to the gills with color, personality, and must-see fashion. Watch how Ashley paired a leather jacket with her wedding gown and so many more moments all captured by Mirelle Carmichael.

From the bride… Luis and I fell in love at the University of California, Santa Barbara and are blessed to call ourselves college sweethearts. After I graduated, Luis was drafted into the MLS as a professional soccer player and our adventure began. Five years later, Luis asked me if I wanted to take a road trip back up to college for the first time together. We walked around campus and had a moment at the soccer field where Luis’ love for soccer shined. Luis then surprised me with reservations at the same Italian restaurant where we had our first date! At the end of our meal Luis went “to the restroom” and when he came back there was a plate in his hand. Luis told me to close my eyes, not seeing what was on the plate. Luis loves pulling pranks so I honestly thought he was trying to pull one on me, but when I opened my eyes….Luis was down on one knee with a ‘Will you marry me?’ written on a desert plate and a ring in his hand. Through my tears, I said ‘yes!’.

With Luis’ career we started the planning process around his schedule and at the time we were living in Monterrey, Mexico. We knew we wanted to get married in Santa Barbara, CA since that is where we met and it was close to family. We searched for a venue that incorporated both our styles. Luis is from Mexico so we wanted a Spanish vibe, but also one that had a classic romantic feel to it. After weeks of searching, I came across Sunstone Vineyards & Winery in the Santa Barbara mountains and it was perfect. The venue gave a spanish feel with a cuvee cave and romantic features that were so easy to add simple touches like greenery and lots of candlelight. We said our own vows outside under a big tree and the weather was perfect. We had a Spanish guitarist welcoming our guests and my grandma and great uncle stole the show being the flower girl and ring bearer. We danced the night away outside under string lights with papel picado and ended the night with mexican wedding cookies and churros which were my fave!
