What is not to love about this styled modern Americana wedding shoot, photographed by Emily March? Drawing their color palette and vibe from the local Independence festivities in Sonoma, this team of amazing vendors gave red, white, and blue a California cool twist by introducing copper accents, driftwood chargers, and indigo linens. Most couples planning a destination wedding in Sonoma are drawn by the world-class wines and breathtaking vineyard backdrops. If they dig a little deeper into the heart of town (or experience just one Independence Day parade – Sonoma’s favorite holiday!), they’ll soon discover the rich culture and vintage charm of this historic locale, not to mention a world of fresh wedding inspiration.
Playing on the red, white, and blues of Sonoma’s beloved Independence Day festivities, we created a timely nod to history with a Modern Americana theme in a palette of indigo, ivory, and copper. Set at the Maysonnave House, an intimate garden venue and cottage built in 1910 just a stones throw from the plaza, we let Sonoma’s heritage provide the roots of our story, while our team of vendors made it current with avant-garde details.
Encore Events Rentals’ copper bistro chairs and flatware glowed against the matte finishes of the place settings and the mali block print indigo table linen. The driftwood chargers referenced the California coastline, just an hour drive from Sonoma, while the minimalist dinnerware from Encore and modern cake stands from Cake Bloom’s newly launched collaboration with local ceramicist, Amanda Wright, offered the perfect juxtaposition of old and new.
In keeping with the theme, Petal Atelier added modern, sculptural details to complement the historic setting with a floral ceremony installation of locally-grown olive leaf, spiral eucalyptus, bay laurel, and delphiniums. Lush arrangements in ivories and blues contrasted our model’s fiery locks, and intricate textural styling using foraged succulents and air plants for Cake Bloom’s wedding cakes made them the focal point of the table.
The stationery suite from Bow and Arrow featured hand-lettered indigo watercolor invites and menus accented with a metallic copper script. In true Sonoma style, a witty chalkboard sign from Vine Country Signs invited guests to try some of its finest on the front porch overlooking the garden because, vineyards or not, this is still wine country, and wine was always part of the story.
