In front of just nine of their closest family and friends, these two said “I do” beneath a gorgeous floral arbor on a dramatic cliff hanging over the Blackfoot River. From the stunning views and the rustic, horse-drawn carriage to the bride’s bohemian gown and wildflower bouquet, this Montana beauty cannot be missed.
From the Bride… George and I frequently drive up to a river called Rock Creek outside of town. It was a warm Saturday in June when George asked me if I wanted to pack a lunch and visit Rock Creek for the afternoon. We hopped in the car and drove with the windows down, parked the car, and started changing into fishing waders. George kneeled down as if he was helping me tie my boot and pulled a box out of his pocket. As he opened the box holding his grandmother’s ring, he asked me to marry him.
An intimate, cozy, and romantic autumn day under the Montana sky with our immediate family members and our dog felt like the most fitting way to spend our first day as husband and wife. It was the first time our family really got to know each other, and experiencing this day together formed a bond between the 11 of us.
The ceremony spot was on a dramatic cliff hanging over the Blackfoot River decorated with a gorgeous arbor covered with eucalyptus and soft, fall-colored roses. The bridal bouquet had burgundy foliage with woody stems, local Montana wildflowers, roses, and sage greens which gave it a whimsical look and feel. Our guests stood around us during the ceremony while our dog chased squirrels down the mountain. My dad acted as the officiant, which made it even more special as he was able to share personal stories about both of us as well as things we had shared to him about the other person.
After the ceremony, we enjoyed drinks, appetizers, and s’mores around an open fire in a field of hills followed by a horse drawn carriage ride to dinner. An acoustic guitarist/singer played music as we ate dinner next to a fire at a gorgeous table with lots of candles. A few songs by our favorite band, Phish, were played as a surprise to us from my mom.
The Chicago Cubs were playing in their final game before they made it to the World Series that night. Naturally with a table full of Chicagoans, there were constant updates of the game during dinner before we decided to move the cake cutting to the rustic bar on the ranch. We ate cake, drank, and watched our team win while we celebrated the night away.
