Epic Sand Dune Engagement Shoot

These pics trick ya; they look crazy calm but behind the scenes was an action movie in progress. These two cuties dealt with winds and high temps, climbing through the dunes, all the while smiling, laughing and making it an adventure to remember. Alex Warschauer was along for the ride, capturing it all and his pics, priceless. See them all in our Vault right this way!

From Alex WarschauerOne of my favorite things about working with my couples is shooting in fun, new locations. When Chloe and Evan told me that they were open for a sand dune engagement session I knew that we were not only going to be creating some seriously epic images together but we were going to have the best time together and a great story for the books.

Leading up to the shoot I kept looking at weather conditions, traffic predictions, and an endless supply of visual inspiration from other photographers. Because I had never been to this location before and I wouldn’t arrive until the day of the shoot I knew I wanted to arrive early and have ample time to scout. We caravanned the way out there, stopping to get some tasty In-N-Out and to stretch our legs on the long journey. The forecast for the day wasn’t too inviting, 25mph winds and near 100 degree temperatures were in our near future. In situations like that you just have to plan for the worst and hope for the best. I usually have my girlfriend aka #1 photography assistant hold a reflector to block the wind for me but given that she weighs less than one hundred pounds I didn’t want to see her get blown away.

Upon our arrival we were all overcome with an instant sense of being transported to Egypt. It was magical. Throughout the day we climbed sandy ridges, ran down steep banks, and dodged stinging sand. Chloe and Evan were not only open to all of my ideas and suggestions, but they were so sweet with each other throughout the whole process! At times I would be photographing them from 500 feet away and Evan would have his cellphone in his jacket pocket with the speaker turned on.

This was by far one of my favorite shoots to date and seriously the most adorable and kind couples I’ve had the sincere pleasure of working with. I cannot wait until their Palm Springs wedding next year!
