From the Bride…
What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?
Dexter and I wanted our wedding to reflect who we are as a couple and to celebrate our love surrounded by our community of family and friends. We knew we wanted to get married outdoors and tried to bring to life the natural beauty of California for our friends and family who live across the world, from Sydney, London, New York to Toronto. We had our wedding ceremony and reception outdoors at Vine Hill House in Sebastopol, which is one of the most beautiful places we have ever been to. We only looked at three wedding venues and when we walked away from Vine Hill House we looked at each other and both had the same “this is the one” feeling. We wanted our wedding to feel intimate and romantic, but not overly formal.
What was your color palette and your style vision?
Our color palette was mostly neutrals including blush, cream and white flowers along with olive sprigs and greenery. We also chose to incorporate navy from the men’s suits, and mixed gold and silver metals. Our style vision was rustic elegance – I wanted it to look elegant without feeling overly formal; and I wanted it to seem rustic without too many unrefined details. Lastly, I wanted it to feel naturally beautiful, since the venue is so stunning.
What unique elements or DIY details did you include?
Some of the DIY details that I included were photos of Dexter and I from growing up, as well as family members who couldn’t travel or be at the wedding. Another unique element that Dex thought of was attaching a GoPro to a Fireball bottle. One of his groomsmen was in charge of kicking it off and once it got started, people kept passing the bottle around while we were dancing. Everyone loved it and now we have the funniest video footage from the GoPro!
What was your favorite moment? Your favorite crafted detail?
My favorite moment… it’s tough to say because there were so many good ones! But maybe when I first saw Dex. I will always remember the feeling in that moment of confidence, gratitude and joy; and knowing that whatever happened that day I was incredibly lucky that I met my soulmate.
My favorite crafted detail was the S/D monogram that our calligrapher Kelly designed for us. I loved that we were able to incorporate it in so many different ways and helped personalize the day – from the cocktail stirrers to our cake knife.
Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.
My wedding dress was designed by Amy Kuschel and it was a beautiful cotton lace. I loved the simplicity of the dress and the texture of the lace, and most of all how I felt wearing the dress. I paired the dress with Christian Louboutin Draperia heels, Ippolita mother of pearl earrings, and a halo crown. For my something old, new borrowed and blue I had keepsakes from my mom and grandma including the purse and white gloves that my mom wore on her wedding day.
What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?
My advice: don’t sweat the small stuff. The details will come together in a way that is beyond how you had envisioned them while you were planning the wedding. But don’t worry! After your wedding day, the highlights of your wedding will be the moments, emotions and all of the memories captured.
