Hurricane Joaquin Couldn’t Dampen This Wedding Day

It’s a fact that wedding days simply don’t go 100% stick-to-the-schedule, no hiccups, perfect. In fact, sometimes unexpected guests like Hurricane Joaquin threaten to crash the party. But for Marisa and Scott, the impending storms didn’t even make them flinch. Because in the end, their candlelit reception designed by Type A Society perfectly offset the weather and Laura Gordon captured every bit.

From Type A SocietyMarisa Notarnicola and Scott Wright first met during a weekend skiing at Smuggler’s Notch in Vermont. They immediately hit it off and kept in touch following their ski trip. A month later, Scott was ecstatic to find out Marisa had accepted a job offer bringing her north to New York City and significantly closer to him.

The timing was perfect for both of them. They learned quickly their values and priories were aligned– family, friends, faith and future goals. On their third date, they booked a trip to Iceland nearly 6 months away – they knew it was a little crazy but joked that they would have to stay friends until at least that trip! From that point forward they were inseparable.

Scott courted Marisa for nearly two years, and after countless adventures, he flew to Dallas to ask her father, Jim, for his daughter’s hand in marriage. A year of long-distance wedding planning, Scott entering business school, and relocating to Nashville, quickly passed and before they knew it they were hand-in-hand at the altar, surrounded by their closest friends and family.

Bride’s favorite wedding detail: Our ring bearer box! It’s a heart shaped cobalt and gold porcelain ring box – the first gift Scott bought me when we started dating.

Groom’s favorite wedding detail: Our antique shuffleboard table that we converted into a champagne bar and the bagpiper that led us outside of the church after the ceremony.

Biggest surprise of the wedding: Hurricane Joaquin became a welcomed guest at the wedding! The cold and rainy weather was completely offset by the cozy candlelight and romantic draping inside the reception tent.
