10 Pretty Things We Love About Occasions By Diana

With the motto "Never stop learning" and the mission to give brides a totally personal, 5-star experience, it's no surprise Occasions by Diana is one of the best in the biz -- not to mention one of our favorites! So today, we're diving in to discover her insider secrets on proper pre-wedding beauty prep and the most important question to ask when hiring your big day beautician! Trust us, you're going to want to write these down...

1. How did you get into wedding hair and makeup?

While previously working as a stylist in a salon I realized that the brides that would come in for styling weren’t necessarily getting the 5 star treatment I felt they deserved. I thought: it has to be easier, more precise, and definitely more special… and with that, my business was born. I eventually left the salon to fully focus on my brides along with some editorial work, and wouldn’t change it for the world.

2. What's your personal motto, or a phrase that inspires you creatively?

Personally, my motto is “Never stop learning”. I am a believer that you must be open to the world around you at all times in order to be the best you. Whether it’s learning a new technique, about new cultural tradition, or something about yourself, being open to something new and different can be the next big step in your creative process.

3. Can you describe your aesthetic in three words?

Timeless, Classic, Glamorous.

4. What are three things you can't live without?

Bobby Pins, Hairspray and Lipstick.

5. Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration from the 50’s and 60’s mostly. I adore the way women took so much pride in their appearance at that time. I love the simple, feminine yet strikingly confident appearance that a winged liner and red lip gives to a look. I also love the mixture of modern and vintage for a clean, classic styling that will surely remain timeless.

6. What's your favorite social media platform?

Definitely Instagram, but I also love Pinterest. Both are able to inspire people to try something new, feel confident, and also find their personal style, which I think is amazing.

7. What is a hair and makeup detail that often gets overlooked, that you wish got more attention in the planning process?

I think that proper skin and hair preparation is often very overlooked during planning. It is really important to think about your hair and skin leading up to your big day as well as prep it properly for the day of application and styling. I love to set my brides in curlers (which also makes for cute photos) as well as have a yummy natural lip scrub and really luxurious moisturizer for them. Not only is a moment of relaxation before your busy and exhilarating day, it allows for a more glowy, healthy look that lasts all night.

8. What do you think is the most important question a client can ask, when deciding who to hire for their wedding hair and makeup?

A good stylist can bend and mold for their clients needs and desires, so a great question to ask is “What do you envision for my look?” Even if it doesn’t necessarily match what you were thinking, it can give you an insider view into their creative process, knowledge and ability to look at the big picture and your style together. Communication is definitely key for the beauty process. Talking about what you do and don’t like and looking at inspiration together is really important to build trust and be clear with one another.

9. What's been your proudest professional accomplishment as a makeup artist?

My proudest professional accomplishment as a makeup artist would definitely be working as assistant to Deanna Hagan for Coca Cola’s new campaign- which you can see internationally on billboards, advertisements and all across the internet world. I learned so much on that project; I got to work with ridiculously talented creatives and do looks that are way different than my usual work. I feel so blessed to have been a part of it!

10. When you're not working, what do you like to do for fun?

I love to spend time with my little family adventuring in different lands, driving cool classic cars, and laughing together till it hurts.
