This Texas wedding is making me long for summer. With a bright color scheme and exuberant details, Brandi Hines Events + Design created a wedding with the same joy and happiness as a great day at summer camp (the fun Silvercloud Events Co. didn’t hurt either!). From The Bride…Looking back on our wedding day it’s hard to pick a word to describe the day other than joy. We both felt so much joy that the day had FINALLY come after dating for just shy of six years. We both had never-ending smiles all day, truly enjoying our time with all of our friends and family.
Jon and I met our freshman year at Texas A&M University while we were out dancing with friends. We dated all throughout college, so our wedding was a huge reunion for our wedding party and guests, many of home had known each other since we met. Being true Aggies, we played the Aggie War Hymn during our reception and even sang a cappella when the DJ’s music stopped mid-song by accident. Jon proposed while we were on a camping trip in Colorado, so having our ceremony and reception outside somewhere beautiful just made sense to us. Once we saw Camp Comfort we knew that we had found our venue.
The venue…Camp Comfort is a bed and breakfast is located in Comfort, Texas (how cute of a name is that?) nestled in the Hill Country and the perfect mix of rustic, modern, and eclectic. Having our wedding at a B&B also meant that we could stay there with our wedding party both the night before and night of the wedding, which really added to the fun of the weekend. Our time hanging out around the fire pit with our groomsmen and bridesmaids after our rehearsal dinner was one of our favorite memories from the weekend.
The location…We’re both Texans, born and raised, so we loved getting married in a tiny Texas town. Most of our family members arrived in Comfort on Friday for an all-ladies bridal luncheon hosted by my aunts (a tradition in my family). We had our rehearsal dinner at a pizza place just down the street from the venue called Comfort Pizza. Everything is within walking distance in Comfort, so the weekend was laid back and all about spending time with our friends and family who had come in from all over the state. One of our favorite parts about having our wedding in Comfort was the drive out from Austin. We knew that drive would be beautiful for our guests.
The photography…Traci and Kellie at Anne Marie Photography were exactly our style! It was incredible to see how well their photos caught the light and colors of the day. It helped that both of them attended Jon and I’s alma mater, Texas A&M, and were the sweetest people all day. We felt right at home with them and could not have loved our photographers more! Jon and I decided pretty late in the planning process to use a videographer as well. Luckily Bryan with The Bird and The Bear was still available for our wedding date. We LOVED how the wedding video turned out and will always recommend budgeting for a videographer to other couples getting married. Bryan captured the emotions of the day in a way that we couldn’t have imagined.
The details…After we met Brandi with Brandi Hines Events + Design, our wedding coordinator, we knew that her style would be perfect for the day that we were envisioning. She was amazing! We knew that we wanted the feel to be colorful, eclectic, and not too formal. She pulled it off perfectly. We thought through so many small details for the wedding to make everything feel like us. The invitations were letter pressed by Studio 3 Press. Jon and my brother built our wedding backdrop themselves a month before the wedding after I found the perfect macramé hanging. We chose songs for the night by artists that we have seen together live in Austin including Iron and Wine, Of Monsters and Men, and Death Cab for Cutie. Jon and I wrote our own vows and had our guests say “we do” when our pastor asked if they would encourage us in our marriage. We had Bibles passed down from both sides of my family at the small table where Jon and I had our first communion as husband and wife. Our exit included sparklers and riding bicycles down the street and back.
The food…The dessert table was one of my favorite things at the wedding! My mom hunted for vintage cake stands and even had a cake stand custom made with our names and wedding date. The bridal cake from Cynthia at Cakes and More Bakeshop was unique and covered with colorful succulents and flowers. We went with our gut (literally) and chose flavors that we have loved forever, alternating layers of confetti with strawberry cream and strawberry with cream cheese frosting. The groom’s cake was a simple spice cake with cream cheese frosting and greenery lining the bottom. My mom also made her famous chocolate chip cookies and Jon’s aunt made
delicious bite-sized apple pastries.
Cocktail hour and reception…We wanted people to mingle and let loose during the cocktail hour, so we placed a table with chips, queso, salsa, and guacamole in the Social Hall. Meanwhile, the bar was outside near the dance floor and photo booth by Airstream Photo Booth, which kept people up taking photos and dancing. We decided not to do table settings for the reception to keep the feel informal and encourage mingling among our guests. Jon and I wanted to keep things simple with the menu, so offered a mix of heavy appetizers including South Texas cheese steak egg rolls, stuffed mushrooms, mini chalupas, and cilantro chicken empanadas from Anne Marie’s Catering. Our drink options were local craft beer from Austin, margaritas, and sangria. Our head table was under an open wooden structure with lights strung up everywhere. It felt so romantic and fun!
Flowers…I worked at a flower shop in high school, so the flowers were important to me. Brandi knocked it out of the park. I can’t even describe how much I LOVED my bouquet! It was one of my favorite things from the wedding. Brandi made the bouquet look wild, eclectic, and bohemian in a way that I could not have imagined…and it was HUGE! I loved it! The centerpieces were fun and whimsical with succulents, gold accents, and lots of greenery and color.
My look…I wore a Catherine Deane dress for the wedding and a white lace romper for our exit. Both were from BHLDN. My wedding dress was actually one that I found on Pinterest months before we were even engaged! It was the first one that I tried on and just felt like me. I loved the bohemian feel and all of the detail. I kept the rest of my look simple with a headpiece by Justin & Taylor and a veil by Debra Moreland. The only jewelry that I wore was a blue vintage cocktail ring that belonged to my great-grandmother and earrings that Jon gave me as a gift the day of the wedding. I loved how freeing it was to change into the romper and ride off on bicycles for our exit! The girls at Hey Lovely Makeup did the hair and makeup for myself and all of the bridesmaids. They were AMAZING! The bridesmaids all wore black dresses with lace detailing. I could not have been happier with how all of the dresses looked together; it looked like they were curated just for the wedding. We heard from our guests that our wedding was so “us”. You can’t get a better compliment than that! We are still in awe of the love that we felt from our family and friends on our wedding day. It really was an incredible day!
