Some wedding parties want a limo, but this crew? They prefer a more laid-back ride. Driven by a tractor from the ceremony to reception, they fully embraced the family farm setting and crafted a rustic celebration personal to them. From The Bride…We wanted our wedding to be one that “went down in the record books”, as my Dad likes to say! We were so thrilled to be sharing our love story with all of our family and friends and wanted our special day to be one that was unforgettable! Having our wedding at the farm was a perfect place for us to celebrate, as it was a special part of Peder’s childhood, and captured our easy going love that we have for each other.
Deciding on the color palette was an easy decision, we wanted our guests to truly soak in the beautiful farm surroundings. By choosing the neutral, muted tones it kept that soft-warm look that complemented the backdrop beautifully. As a bride, I enjoyed every minute of pulling together the details and honestly I think Peder did too! The ceremony space was by far our favorite crafted detail. We knew we wanted a unique space for our “I do’s” because it would be the place where we would share our vows and become officially a married couple. Even though we spent many hours hauling hay bales into place, cutting up perfectly squared pieces of fabric, and rolling whiskey barrels across the property, it was more than worth it when it all came together.The hay bales were then also used to create lounge areas for both the cocktail hour and in our reception space under the tent. This made for a great spot for our guests to sit and enjoy a drink and added a fun flair to the decor.
Since we were getting married on the farm we really needed to do a lot of the work ourselves. Although at first very overwhelming, Pete and I ended up truly enjoying designing and creating a lot of the special details together. We spent many hours up in the top of his father’s barn looking for unique wagon wheels, crates, and other fun farm items that would be great personal touches to our space. Another detail that really added to the table decor, was the barn wood planks we had as runners. This idea developed after realizing how expensive farm tables were to rent, but we still wanted some kind of wood accent.Thankfully, Peder was able to distress and stain old barn wood and it was the perfect added touch to the table designs. These details really came together in such a beautiful way and ultimately made our decor uniquely our own.
Throughout the day there were so many unbelievable moments that we will never forget; riding in a vintage 1931 Chrysler and then traveling in the back of a tractor (driven by Peder’s Dad!) with our entire bridal party and parents accompanied with coolers and hay bales, but ultimately seeing each other for the first time was by far our favorite. We chose to do a first look prior to the ceremony because we wanted that intimate moment to ourselves, and we are so thankful we did! Underneath a breathtaking willow tree, Peder and I got to take in all of the excitement and joy of years of friendship and love for each other….the big day was finally here…we were finally going to be married! The tree not only made for a stunning backdrop, but was a place on the farm that was truly special to him. We couldn’t have pictured a better place to soak in that moment.
My biggest advice for brides is to really try to enjoy all the preparations leading up to it and appreciate each of the various stages of the planning process. Peder and I (along with the help of family and friends!) created a lot of our special touches together, therefore, it made it all the more special when the big day came and we saw all of our hard work come to fruition. Also, I encourage all couples to step out, at some point during the evening’s celebration, to have a moment together, just the two of you. Peder and I left the dance floor for a few minutes and we laid by the pond in the grass, me in my gown, him in his tux, and we just breathed in all of the love and joy that day gave us. We both still talk about that moment.
