Vintage Chic Farm House Wedding in Lewisburg
Question: what makes a barn wedding all the more wonderful? Answer: Barn kitties. Yes that's right, just ask Meghan and Nick why their homestead celebration was beyond words beautiful and I bet you'll here a mention of some sweet lil' fluffs. Complete with Forget-Me-Not Vintage Rentals and Anna Reynal behind the lens, we've got every second of this sweet ceremony waiting for you in The Vault!
From Forget-Me-Not Vintage Rentals... Meghan did an absolutely amazing job at illustrating her wedding day and her vision below, so my description is brief. Meghan and Nick got married at Meghan's parent's beautifully restored farm house property. It was such a naturally beautiful property, that even though it poured most of the day, everything still looked stunning. The words english garden, natural and greenery were most commonly used when dreaming up the couples big day. We chose to focus on hues of green, gold and amber as well as elements of natural wood through all of the vintage furniture.
From the Bride... Both Nick and I envisioned our wedding as two equally important parts; first a meaningful and intimate-feeling ceremony, followed by a great party with all our favorite people that ended with everyone on the dance floor for the entire night. For as long as I can remember, when I pictured my wedding I pictured getting married under the walnut tree in my parents front yard. They live on a 200 year-old, 50-acre farm in rural Pennsylvania so it really provided such a perfect and special venue for us. The location was by far the most important element and once we had decided to have an outdoor ceremony/cocktail hour with a tented reception the rest came very naturally. In fact, my sister-in-law's best friend designed our save the dates and invitation suite using the outline of the walnut tree from a picture I had taken several years ago.
I never really liked the idea of specific "wedding colors" and gravitated more toward identifying colors, tones and textures that worked toward creating a warm, rustic elegance. This ended up being primarily gold and blush tones, shades of sage and mint green, ivories and elements of natural wood and glass. My style vision was loosely based on the idea of a formal dinner or tea party in the middle of the woods, something you might go to in a vintage gown and bare feet. I wanted it to feel elegant but relaxed and embrace the natural/beautiful surroundings of the rural location. We owe Forget Me Not Vintage Rentals for making this even remotely possible.
My parents have several cats that live in the barn, they had had kittens earlier that summer so there were 3 or 4 little kittens running around the whole time, one especially friendly one made it into quite a few photos.
Some of our DIY details included custom cornhole sets and lawn jenga that Nick and his Dad made by hand in the garage and then Nick and I painted. Nick and I also spray painted all of the little gold animals that were seen throughout things, including the seating cards, I wrote all the guests names out and made all the escort cards.
My favorite moment was definitely meeting Nick at the end of the aisle, it was the happiest moment of my life... and he promptly burst into happy tears which developed into laughter when he couldn't compose himself (very well documented by our photographer). It was happy and funny and very emotional... a priceless moment on so many levels. That being said, the ceremony in general was our favorite part. The rain let up just long enough for us to have the ceremony outside. We didn't think we were going to be able to do that, and had only set up chairs, no decor, and it turned out we really didn't need any. It was perfect just as it was, under the tree. We were married by one of my best friend's mother, who has watched our group of friends grow through relationships and experiences since we were in middle school. She knows me (and all of us) very well and has performed the marriage ceremony for 3 of my best girlfriends, including my maid of honor. I also was able to get dressed in my childhood bedroom and watch my guests arrive from my window (you can see me in the top right window looking out in a wedding dress on one of the pictures of the house) which was so surreal and amazing.
Even if you are the most organized, or most laid-back person in the world, something will not go as you hoped or expected it would on your wedding day. It will still be the best day of your life. I promise. We planned a wedding with a lot of outdoor elements, including lawn games, and Chinese lanterns that we were going to light at night and it rained the. entire. day. EXCEPT, it held off just long enough for us to get married under the tree in my parents yard which was amazing. Even if the rain hadn't held off we still had a ton of fun dancing the night away with all of our favorite people.
