From Shannon Moffit Photography...The quiet and secluded setting of BayVue Estate was the perfect location for Alyssa and Sam’s waterside wedding. Since the venue is nestled on the Mobjack Bay in Virginia, the couple drew inspiration from surrounding nature when designing their wedding details. Their color palette included lovely pops of lilac-gray, dark green, and sparkling crystal. There was no shortage of nature-inspired elements, soft florals, estate antiques, and laughter from fun-loving guests. Overall, this wedding was simply elegant and classically beautiful!

From The Bride...We met on the Carolina coast as two post-college graduates working at the beach. I was an ecology research technician new to the state, and Sam was a tanned and cute swim coach that my coworkers knew. We met once at a bar with friends, but it wasn't until later that fall when Sam swooned me with his amazingly kind self and southern drawl. After our first date we couldn't get enough of each other; we spent many moments on beach runs, dancing to live music, watching sports, and enjoying every minute together in a romantic beach town. It was the beautiful beginning to our love story.

We got engaged in North Carolina, beneath beautiful live oak trees. Since we are outdoorsy, nature-loving people, it was important for us to have an outdoor wedding at a private waterside residence somewhere in Virginia. Over two years, five changed wedding dates, and many venue cancelations, we could not have been happier with our end-resulting big day! Despite the wait and planning challenges, we were able to incorporate both of our tastes and favorite things into a simple and organic style that represented our personalities and love story.

From the beginning of the planning process, we wanted to incorporate greenery, delicate white flowers, and lilac-gray into our wedding, which you could find in the chiffon bridesmaid gowns, tea candles, rosemary sprigs, and bundles of branches that softened the archway at the ceremony. The Flower Cupboard captured our natural style in lovely arrangements around the arbor and in the bouquets. My wedding dress has silver and crystal beading in the bodice and a soft chiffon and tulle skirt, which danced in the breeze as I walked outside.

We proudly nodded to our Coast Guard roots and simple styles with dark navy suits, kisses of blue in the flowers, navy signage graphics, fun napkins, and favors with our service slogan. We also incorporated silk ribbon from Silk and Willow for the bouquets, bistro lights between trees for cocktail hour, and a clear top tent for the reception. Once the sun went down, a fire pit was lit to keep guests warm as they held our personalized cocktails and chatted under a nearly full moon.

Overall, the weekend was classic and natural, just as we had envisioned it would be, and BayVue was the perfect setting. I was overjoyed with every detail and decision we made! One of my favorite moments of the night was looking up through the clear top tent to the moon and stars, surrounded by our friends, family, and my amazing new husband! It was a dream come true!
