Organic + Industrial Wedding at 701 Whaley

Savannah and Brock, you are officially my hero. Why? Well, let’s start with the fact that you managed to plan your gorge dream wedding from opposite coasts. AH-MAZING. I honestly don’t know how you college cuties did it because your special day along with this divine gallery are too good for words. See it all for yourself captured by the talented Marcie Meredith Photography in THE VAULT!

From the Bride… Our wedding day was incredible, a beautiful day in the middle of a much longer story. Brock and I were friends from almost the instant we met at Clemson University. After several years, I came to my senses and decided to go on a date with my friend. I have never laughed so much on a first date! Brock is truly the funniest person you will ever meet. We dated for a few months after graduation from Clemson, and Brock accepted a job with a church in Seattle. Dating long distance was hard, as FaceTime replaced coffeeshop and dinner-dates for a while. But we managed to see each other in person every few months, and on December 26 of 2014, Brock asked me to marry him!

We planned our dream wedding from opposite coasts, but knew we both wanted a wedding that was about bringing all of our friends and family together to have a great time celebrating with us. Brock didn’t have much of an opinion on most things, except music and the food, but once we chose our catering company, Southern Way, it felt like that first big decision helped to move everything forward. The team at Southern Way went far above and beyond a simple menu, and spent time to sit down with me to talk through a look and feel that connected with their seriously delicious food. Their comprehensive planning process made the day feel beautifully consistent.

With the menus set, I focused on the look and feel of the decorations and wedding party. I knew I liked the idea of white flowers with bunches of greenery everywhere. I also wanted to have my bridesmaids wearing different colors and dresses, a decision that worked out well, because I gave the girls a list of dresses and colors to choose from. Each of my friends were able to pick dresses that suited their body types and color preferences, and made them feel beautiful. For my dress, I thought I wanted a tighter, lacy gown, but I walked out of the store with something completely different—it’s completely different to look at a picture than to see a dress on yourself! For the guys, Brock and I loved the look of the dark navy suits we chose.

Our venue for both the ceremony and reception, 701 Whaley, had a double advantage in helping us have a more peaceful day with no driving between venues, and a gorgeous setting that only needed to be set off by a few simple decorations. My favorite decoration was the two doors we used for a backdrop. 701 Whaley let us use the doors and our florist, Scott Jones, made them look beautiful. My friends from S. Bogan Designs hung lanterns above the alter and, gosh, it was just so perfect for us! I was thrilled with the results.

Another vendor I loved working with was our photographer, Marcie Meredith. She captured sweet moments during the day, and her shooting and editing style was exactly what I wanted. She was such a joy and ease to work with coming up to the event and on the day. The most memorable moment of the whole day was seeing Brock for the first time. I was anxious the whole morning, and a few hair-setting complications made me a little uneasy, but the moment I saw Brock everything was better, and the nervousness disappeared. It reminded me that I didn’t need to stress about the small things, and to focus instead on getting to marry my handsome man! He was so sweet and I remember him whispering in my ear how much he loved me. I’m so glad we chose to do a ‘first look’ photography session before the ceremony. It definitely helped me to calm down before the ceremony.

I loved our special day and have wonderful memories and photos of celebrating with friends and family. Although little things may be imperfect at the time, the important things for us came through—enjoying each other and our loved ones.
