Romantic Waterfront Engagement Session in Toronto

From When He Found Her... Matt and Ellen both attended to universities in the same province of Nova Scotia, Canada. At the time, Matt was studying medicine at Dalhousie University in the city of Halifax, while Ellen went to Acadia University, just an hour away.They met by chance when Ellen spent a weekend in Halifax celebrating her best friend's birthday while Matt happened to be attending another birthday at the same venue. "I remember when I first saw her – she caught my eye even from across the room. I was nervous at first but figured there was nothing to lose.” That night they exchanged contact information and traded messages back and forth over the next few weeks. She eventually came back down a month and a half later and they went on their first date. Despite the distance, each weekend Matt would drive up to visit Ellen for the rest of the school year.
Over the next 3 years, they spent a majority of their relationship long-distance with Ellen spending her summers home in Toronto, eventually moving back home after graduation. Matt was also busy finishing up his schooling that included rotations and interviews across the country. He obtained a 5 year residency in Halifax, and she eventually moved back to spend the rest of his residency with him while pursuing a career in fashion and visual merchandising.
Matt decided he wanted to propose to Ellen after their 5th year anniversary, and it was difficult to find the right time and place for the proposal. It was no surprise that they were getting engaged as they had picked out a ring together earlier in the year, but he wanted to pop the question when she was least expecting it, and in a meaningful way. He decided to ask her at a beach they accidentally came across near her university 5 years ago on one of their first dates. On one of the weekends in July he asked her if she wanted to go apple picking in Wolfville for the day, and no suspicion arose as they went on a few weekend trips out in the province earlier that summer. They drove up to visit her old university grounds and on the way to the farm he casually suggested they go look for the beach they had found 5 years ago when they were exploring the area.
Ellen laughed and told him it would be near impossible as they had not been there in 5 years and had found it last time only because they had gotten lost on their way home. Though she was doubtful they would find it, she agreed to the plans, not knowing Matt knew the directions all along and had carefully planned on "accidentally" finding the place! To her surprise and excitement, they came across the same road leading to the same beach, and decided to spend the afternoon there instead. As there were people around, Matt wanted to ask Ellen alone so he suggested they walk along the shore, and along the walk he suggested they should try to recreate one of their first photos where he had piggybacked her on the same beach. She thought it was a cute idea so she turned around to grab her phone in her purse, and when she turned back he was on one knee. It could not have been a better moment and place to pop the question, and the rest is basically history!
From the Couple... We wanted our engagement session to be simple and to speak for itself in a very natural setting, so we picked the Scarborough Bluffs in Toronto, ON near Ellen's home. Reid from WhenHeFoundHer could not have been a better match for us as he understood our vision, and was so in line with the aesthetic we were looking for in our photography.
