Vintage weddings and the Metropolitan Building go together like bow ties and lace. Velvety pink chairs for propping bouquets, distressed brick walls and darling mirrors for those veiled getting ready moments, just for starters. And this beauty, with Judy Pak behind the lens, highlights that charm at it’s best. Want more vintage lovers? Head to THE VAULT.
From the Bride and Groom… After a beautiful engagement in Central Park, we started our search for the perfect venue. At the time, our idea of the perfect wedding was on a vineyard out on the North Fork of Long Island. We viewed a dozen or so vineyards before returning back home to the city to make a final decision. Once a decision was finally made, we attempted to put down a deposit over the phone. Unfortunately, the venue would only accept a deposit in person.
Feeling a little deflated, we decided to take a peek at the local venues before heading back out to Long Island. It was love at first site when we walked into The Metropolitan Building in Long Island City. This one-time electrical factory, built in 1909 was so special and full of history. It’s weathered walls, exposed brick and antique furniture collected by the owner Eleanor Ambos gave way to a unique place to celebrate with friends and family, many who traveled from the West coast to have their first experience in New York.
The venue inspired the rest of the wedding. The flowers, dresses, and table settings were all meant to accentuate the elegant beauty of the space. A close friend performed our ceremony under a beautiful chandelier in front of friends and family. After, we filled the place with dancing and laughter. It was a night we will always remember.
