Traditional + Elegant Outdoor Wedding in Australia
If you thought Meegan and Cameron's picnic inspired e-sesh was romantic just wait because we've got the wedding magic that followed straight from the lens of Katie Grant. A romantic, soft styled ceremony and reception bursting with fresh florals that'll having you pinning. It's the type of gorg garden romance that we're beyond grateful to share, and we've got it all waiting for you in THE VAULT!
From Katie Grant...Meegan and Cameron wed on a gorgeous late Summer day in Perth, Western Australia. Like so many days here in Western Australia, the sun was shining, there was a subtle warmth in the air and an extreme amount of excitement. They chose an outdoor ceremony to really celebrate the beauty of the season followed by a breezy, open air reception at the Boatshed. A mild palette of soft lavender and silver was accented by pops of bright blooms by Twigged Flowers. The day was magic and there was so much love between Meegan and Cameron.
From The Bride...It was around the time of our eight year anniversary. We had been planning to get a puppy, so had taken a few weeks off work with the intention of settling her in. We accidentally misjudged her arrival by a week, so thought we would use the spare time up our sleeves for a last minute holiday to Koh Samui, Thailand, to coincide with our anniversary. It turns out that Cameron had already had the engagement ring for a few months, hidden at his parents house. He was waiting for the perfect opportunity to propose, and a spontaneous holiday was it!
Cameron organised a private chef and surprise candlelit dinner in our villa one night, complete with a playlist of all of our meaningful songs from over the years playing in the background. He also setup the iPad with a video slideshow of our years together since high school. I thought he had certainly gone to a lot of effort to celebrate our anniversary, and thought it was so sweet, but had absolutely no clue he was going to propose! When our favourite song came on half way through the evening, he got down on one knee and proposed. It was magical and, best of all, it was humbling to know he could still surprise me after all those years together!
We spent a lot of time online doing our research, then went and looked at a handful of venues we had narrowed down as our favourites. The Boatshed had a beautiful backdrop, was known for its great menu and was a family run business which took a lot of pride in the weddings they hosted there. One weekend we went and had a look at a wedding that was being setup and had a meeting with the owner - both really helped us to visualise how beautiful our day could look at that venue. What also helped to sell us on the venue was that they offered an all inclusive reception styling package including decorations, flowers, cake any special requests individualised to our personal wedding theme. This meant a lot less work and stress for us, and they did such a fantastic job.
We aimed for a romantic, soft styling of the ceremony and reception - including lots of fresh flowers draping the arbour and adorning the aisle at the ceremony and on the tables and mantles at the reception. In saying that, my dress and hair, and Cameron's suit were all quite a classic style. We loved our wedding's colour palette of charcoal, smokey lavender and ivory with pops of raspberry (the latter a recommendation from of our florist which we were so happy with).
My biggest advice is to do it together, or don't do it at all. Your ability to work together on such a major project with such emotional and financial investment is refelctive of how you will work together on other major life ventures as husband and wife. Planning a wedding whilst fulfilling all your other commitments is a major task so sharing the load with each other is imperative. One of our favourite memories was sitting up at the bridal table and looking out at the beautiful reception we had organised, holding hands as husband and wife, seeing the smiling and happy faces of all our family and friends enjoying the moments with us, feeling on top of the world and and knowing we had achieved this together just like everything else during our relationship.
