Romantic + Elegant Outdoor Private Estate Wedding
This duo brought the class and excitement of the "Big City" to their small town ceremony - and from her drop dead Ines Di Santo gown, to the classy color palette - we'd say they succeeded in doing so on so many levels. It's a fresh take on style that'll have you perusing THE VAULT for all that and more from BRIE TAKES PICTURES!
From Brie Takes Pictures... I recently moved from Toronto and I now live in a small northern Ontario city where weddings are not the lavish affairs I was so accustomed to shooting in "the big city". It was so refreshing to be a part of Lauren + Matt's beautiful day, because they brought the glamour of the city to the sault.
Lauren is originally from Sault Ste. Marie...hence why the marriage took place in our small northern town. Ceremony and Cocktails were at her parents private residence on the water, where she got ready in the morning with her massive girl squad. Lauren and Matt decided against a wedding party, "We are two people who find our friendships to be very important to us but decided that if there was one particular day that should just be about the two of us, and no one else, it's our wedding day." Although they did have 260 guests, they managed to have a very lovely and intimate wedding day that was all about them.
The reception and majority of creative photos were at the new venue that has just opened at Mill Square's - The Machine Shop. This muti use wedding venue and music space featuring sandstone walls, timbered ceilings and turn-of-the-century ironworks, was originally built by Industrialist Francis H. Clergue to develop and maintain machinery for the fledgling Lake Superior Pulp and Paper Company - now completed restoration this year, just in time for weddings - they were one of the first to have their wedding here, and it was just breathtaking.
Guests sat at lavish kings table settings while Lauren and Matt shared a sweet heart table. A lovely meal followed by the best dance party of all time ... and the local food truck to fill everyone's midnight craving...Lauren and Matt brought the class and excitement of the "Big City" to the small town - from her drop dead Ines gown, to stationary by Megan Wappel and her classy colour palette.
From the Bride ... Matt and I met in 2006 while attending The University of Western Ontario and working for the on-campus restaurant & Bar, The Spoke and The Wave. After graduation, we traveled to Vancouver and back to Ontario where we now live in Toronto. When we started planning our wedding, choosing a location was our biggest struggle. My family lives in Sault Ste. Marie - a heck of a trek from the GTA! After some arm twisting, my father convinced us to tour the old local paper mill that was being re-purposed as an event and office space. The space reminded me of two of my favourite venues in Toronto, Evergreen Brickworks and the Fermenting Cellar. The decision was easy after that and the planning was underway! I've helped friends and family plan their weddings and events over the past few years, so I took on the role as 'bride to be' and 'wedding planner/decorator' - testing Matt's patience more than once, I'm sure. He's an excellent sidekick and kept me calm, cool and collected as I pored every minute detail.
Our ceremony took place at my parent's home on the St. Mary's River. The Northern Ontario backdrop doesn't require any decor - its breathtaking beauty is enough. After a lovely ceremony, guests enjoyed appetizers and cocktails by the water and then ushered to the reception venue for a fantastic family style meal prepared by Rosetta Sicoli, executive chef at The Iron Club and an Italian goddess in the kitchen. The highlight of the night was when our fathers surprised us and all of our guests by singing "Hello Young Lovers" by Rodgers & Hammerstein for our first dance. Guests danced the night away to music by Fusion Sound Entertainment and The Allens, a band from London, Ontario. Matt used to play bass guitar in a band with the drummer, so it was necessary that he graced the stage to sing a song or two.
We couldn't have asked for anything more - our friends & family traveled from many distances to join us on what was the best day of our lives. Here's to our next adventure together.
