Why you should really do an engagement shoot

I've seen hundreds of engagement shoots on Style Me Pretty and each are more beautiful than the next. So when it came time to decide if my fiancé, Tom and I were going to take part, I was all in. Tom on the other hand...had some hesitations. "It's going to be awkward, What am I going to wear? I don't want them to be cheesy," he would tell me. But after a little encouragement and a lot inspiration scrolling through The Vault, we were scheduled for a shoot with our fabulous photographer, Michael Will.
Here's the thing you CAN'T see in pictures... it was kind of awkward. Admittedly, Tom and I were nervous. We aren't used to being in front of the camera, so the whole hand-in-hand 'walk down the middle of an empty street' pose didn't feel totally natural. But after only a few minutes, Tom and I started to really get into it. Not only did we end up having a blast with our photographer, we had a blast together!
So if you're on the fence about an engagement session, here are three reasons to go ahead and book it!

  1. DEVELOP A RELATIONSHIP | First and foremost, you get to know your photographer. Imagine the day of your wedding meeting your photographer for the very first time. An engagement session allows you "practice" in front of the camera, get to know their shooting style, and develop a relationship before the Big Day. So essential.

  2. CREATE SWEET MEMORIES | Simply put, you'll cherish the pictures forever. Whether you decide to share with the world on Facebook, or keep tucked away in an album for future children (and grandchildren!) to see, these photos are a legacy beyond just today.

  3. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT | Those seemingly "awkward" poses are actually poses you'll want the day of your wedding. So consider this the trial-run that will help make your day-of portraits sessions go that much smoother.
