Romantic Devil's Thumb Ranch Wedding
This wedding has it all. A breathtaking Devil's Thumb Ranch locale, sweet Colorado-inspired details and crazy beautiful florals from Statice Floral. Plus, don't even get me started on that stunning Augusta Jones gown from Anna Be. (It's awesome.) Think a full-fledged pretty party, all captured by Kelli Lyn Photography. From The Bride... After Dan and I got engaged in Kauai last April, we immediately agreed that we wanted our wedding to be in Colorado at a mountain venue that would allow our mostly out-of-town guests to experience a full weekend in our home state. We also decided that no matter what the flowers looked like or the food tasted like, what was most important to both of us was that our guests left our wedding weekend remembering just how much fun they had. Devil's Thumb Ranch was recommended to us by a number of people and when we visited the breathtaking resort late last spring, we instantly knew it was the perfect venue -- knowing our first date was just a few miles away at Grand Lake was icing on the cake.
Dan and I spend a lot of time outdoors hiking, fly fishing and chasing our 2-year-old chocolate lab, Decker, so the inspiration for our color palette of lavender, pale pink, cream, peach and green came from the natural colors of the Rocky Mountains in the summer. My goal in designing the florals and decor was to complement the Ranch's wildflowers and incredible Civil War-era barn rather than overshadow it with dramatic arrangements. A trip to a Denver floral wholesaler in late July (recommended by my wonderful planner) helped me make sure I selected flowers and shades that would be in season, something I highly recommend to brides who have the luxury of a year long engagement.
Looking back my favorite details were the custom light installations dripping with eucalyptus that our florist designed, which my mother referred to as "show-stoppers." We didn't bring in any other lighting and the soft glow they created throughout the barn was stunning. We also tucked individual sprigs of lavender into every place setting so the room smelled like we were still sitting outside.
From our invitation suite, that featured a rustic custom antler and floral monogram, to our menu filled with items like venison and bison, we really tried to incorporate the Colorado theme throughout every aspect of the weekend. When it came to other details, Dan and I tried to stay as true to ourselves as possible like opting for a dessert bar filled with bite-sized treats, since neither of us like cake, and choosing music, like Tiesto's "Chasing Summers," the song that was playing when we first met at a Las Vegas pool party, for our reception entrance.
Receiving our photos from the incredibly kind and talented Kelli Lyn Photography was such a treat, not only because Dan and I got to see all of the details we missed that day but also because we got to see just how much fun the party was, complete with spontaneous performances of both of our college fight songs, dance moves that caused ripped suit pants and more than one wedding crasher. With too many dancing photos to share, the most amazing and important thing was being able to see the dance floor chock full of our family and friends. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect Rocky Mountain wedding weekend!
