From Jordan Weiland... Courtney + Jon had a beautiful, eclectic wedding in the heart of Denver. Being from Phoenix, AZ they had a destination wedding in Denver with all of their family and friends. When telling their wedding guests why Denver, they said, “we just fell in love with a city, and we wanted you all to be a part of it too.” From their invitations to the hanging florals and the farm tables, it was cloaked in beauty throughout the entire day. Little touches like the custom invitations with the couple's faces drawn on them and the gold embroidery hoops with greenery adorning the ceremony and reception space really set this wedding apart.

From The Bride... Before we began planning our wedding, I always kind of envisioned something rustic. You know: an outdoor ceremony, a barn, lots of lace, and mason jars. I am from the Southwest, and I think it’s a look that was somehow engrained in me. But, when we actually started the planning process, I realized our combined taste, history, and experiences as a couple were driving me into a completely different direction.

We are from Phoenix, but after looking at a few local wedding venues, we quickly realized we wanted something that we didn’t see everyday. We eventually decided on Denver, Colorado, after visiting the city and completely falling love with the downtown area. We were inspired by the city’s urban development and its focus on using old and industrial buildings in creative ways. After that, our venue hunt shifted from rustic to more modern, airy, open venues.

At first this kind of freaked me out, because a small piece of me was still admiring barns and babies’ breath on Pinterest, even though we were looking at art galleries and warehouses. Luckily, our wedding planner recognized this and didn’t laugh at me when I said, “I don’t really have a theme.” Instead, she found a venue (a modern industrial warehouse… with lots of greenery and a little barn in the back!) that allowed me to flex my eclectic vision of what I eventually called “Romantic Industrial,” even though I’m still not really sure what it was.

She said, “just pick out what you like”, and assured me that would be enough to make it all come together. (She also said not to worry – if anything was too far off base, she’d reel us back in). So, when the time came, I embraced the mix of modern chairs and farm tables, succulents and garden roses, geometric shapes and mercury glass, metallics and blushes, floral crowns and white walls. I also trusted my instinct and didn’t choose things just because they were in the same design theme or color palette. Our invitations were picked out on Etsy, and didn’t necessarily go with our colors/venue, but we loved them above all others, so we went with it. In the end, our wedding planner was right – it all came together. Even after a bit of rain, having to execute “ceremony plan B”, and forgetting to bring our vows, when I look back at our wedding, I think it was exactly how it should have been – because it was completely and imperfectly us. I realized my favorite part was simply the ceremony: when I married my best friend and we laughed at ourselves along the way.

My best piece of advice to brides-to-be is go with your gut along the way – don’t let other people sway what you and your groom really want. I’d also say to make time for you on the big day. That sounds strange, but it’s the little things you forget to factor in – like getting one last look in the mirror before the ceremony, allowing yourself five minutes to touch up your hair/makeup at the reception, setting aside time to be with your parents, or just taking the time to look around at your friends and family, and all the other details that only come together in one night. It really does go by so fast, and in my experience, taking the time to take it all in is the very best way to let it all go.
