Diamonds are a girls best friend and ladies, I’m all about maintaining that relationship. So, when my ring begins to lack the original luster, I know that it’s time for me to give it a little shine. My simple solution? Scroll below, because I’m about to share some lustrous tips on how to care for and clean your sparkler!
It’s easiest to return to the place where you hubby purchased your stone since most jewelers offer complimentary cleanings for returning customers (score). They will give your ring the ultimate spa treatment and you’ll be left with one super sparkly setting! Bonus tip: For some serious shimmer, have your ring professionally cleaned the day before your wedding day.
I’m definitely guilty of it, but trying to clean your ring at home with a DIY* remedy is just downright dingy. Believe it or not, center stones may be the strong, but they aren’t immune to product build up or scratches. If you’re in a pinch and want your ring to shine, hit up your first-aid kit (yep) and try using a rubbing alcohol wipe!
Most jewelers sell an at home cleaning kit. BUY IT! When it comes to your precious piece of jewelry you don’t want to mess around with DIY solutions (trust me on this one). The professional cleaning kit is specifically formulated for you to use, but be sure to confirm with the jeweler that that their formula is suitable for your unique ring.
Have you ever experienced the horror of losing a center stone? I certainly know a few ladies that have and trust me – it isn’t fun. The solution to keeping your sanity? Every six months take your ring into your trusted jeweler for inspection. If you ring has suffered trauma between this time, take it in early just to make sure everything is in tip top shape.
*While there are plenty of DIY cleaning techniques to use, we chose to omit them from this article as you should confer with your jeweler to ensure those techniques are safe for your setting and stone.
