Elegant Pastel Ripponlea Estate Wedding in Melbourne

This beautiful Bride is a self-proclaimed girlie-girl, incorporating feminine pastels, garden florals and sweet ruffled detailing throughout her Big Day, but she and her handsome Hubby actually met in the line of fire on a paintball field! This darling duo continued to bring the playfulness to their super fun pastel and candy-filled fête, and Kristen Cook Photography captured it all perfectly in the gallery here!

From The Bride... Jason and I met on the battlefield of paintball, both playing for the same team. He thought I was injured and crying, I thought he had seriously hurt himself walking into friendly fire! Either way we both had misinterpreted the situation but it opened a line of communication which led to date. As they say the rest is history.....fast forward a few years we got married!

I've always wanted our wedding to feel as though it's very romantic, sweet, princess/girly and incorporating pastel colours which everyone know is me (pinks & purples) and where possible bows. I’m the girl who wears bows all the time, either in my hair, on my dresses or even my shoes.

We are also known as the couple who LOVE our fur baby/ pooch 'Bailey', our 6 year old labrador. What I wanted to bring to the wedding was something of Jason as well, he's a real outdoorsy guy having grown up in the country and we wanted to pick a venue that felt classy, rich in heritage but somewhere that had amazing gardens to accommodate a ceremony.

We picked Ripponlea Estate in Elsternwick to hold our wedding, the ceremony in the gardens and reception in the ballroom held on Saturday 9th November 2013. That year it rained ALL WEEK, starting from the Monday all the way up to the day. I remembered thinking on the Friday evening (night before the wedding), it was pouring so hard I had no idea how we could even achieve an outside wedding the following day!

Waking up in the morning to drizzle on our wedding day (you can see it on our wedding video in the morning, it was grey/gloomy and wet) just made my heart sink! But I had a fantastic group of friends that made the morning getting ready a real breeze! Possibly because I had the help of my awesome Wedding Planner and having planned timing to a T, we were actually running ahead of schedule!

Not to mention my good friend Dannii who is also my hair and makeup artist it made getting ready in the morning really fun. The girls even had time to get take away breakfast/coffee from Cafe Vue just a few doors down.

By the time the afternoon came around...I 'd say about 2pm I started to stop feeling so anxious...the clouds were dissipating and there were blue skies!!! Just in time for the ceremony!!

The ceremony was planned for 4pm and there were no clouds in sight! My husband mentioned getting the ceremony ready it was soo windy the BIG white and pink balloons kept taking off in the wind, chairs with it too!! But for some reason minutes before the ceremony began the wind died down and it was perfect!

The whole day was a whirlwind I must admit, everything went to clockwork and I even arrived 15 minutes early to the ceremony and had to sit in the car! Everything went smoothly thanks to my wedding planner, sun was shining, ceremony went off without a hitch and we really enjoyed taking our time wandering through the luscious gardens to take our wedding photos.

Soon the sun was setting and the girls re-wrapped their dresses so that it looked like a different style in the evening for the reception.

My husband and I were super nervous for the reception, we had a HUGE lift at the end of our bridal dance and for the most part in our rehearsals we never practiced it in my wedding dress. He was panicking he'd drop me or not pick me up properly because of the dress and I was worried iId trip in my dress, since it's so long! Luckily none of our fears came to life!

By the time we had finished all speeches, we could RELAX! We ended up boogying the night away and from what our guests told us, they loved the photobooth out on the terrace. It gave them a place to get away and have fun without having to dance too (another option for them really). It was a hit, we got to keep copies of everyone's photos onto a CD and we noticed a lot of guests went back to 2nd and 3rd round of photos! Some were absolutely hilarious!

Everybody told us to make sure you leave at least 10 minutes of your wedding day to yourselves (you and your husband). Sit down, relax and soak it all in. You’re too busy running around being here and there for photographers, saying hi to guests, making sure everyone is ok and running on time that you forget to enjoy the day and the whole moment. Make sure brides and groom find at least 10 minutes, sit down and soak it all in. Be on your own just the two of you and savour this moment because it goes by so quickly!

Favourite part of the wedding: Would have to be the candy buffet! Everyone kept going for 2nd’s and 3rd’s. It was fun and I had a blast working with Sweet Studios in putting it together and styling it. It was a creative outlet for me and made me so happy to see it come to life and have my guests enjoy it! Not to mention the best moment for the both of us was the wedding dance! We had so much fun learning it that we couldn’t wait to get onto the dance floor even though we were a nervous wreck beforehand!
