Whimsical + Playful Malibu Wedding With a Ferris Wheel

As a little girl, this gorgeous Bride (who owns The Printed Palette with her handsome Groom) used to dress up in her aunt’s wedding dress and dream of her perfect day, which always included a ferris wheel and cotton candy. Years later her dream came true with help from Amorology, and as a result, we have so many pretty pictures from Jen + Shane Photography to pin! From the jade green Weddington Way bridesmaids’ dresses (yes, that’s Tenley from “The Bachelor!”) to the Bride’s ruffly Lazaro gown for JLM Couture and the furniture from Pretty Vintage Rentals, everything about this day makes us smile. See it all here.

From AmorologyWhen there is a Ferris wheel and a cute couple who happen to be the proud owners of The Printed Palette, we knew that we were in for a great wedding! This wedding brought out the essence of good ol’ fashion fun and a sweet side courtesy of Bon Puf cotton candy cart and countless other treats. We loved working with this darling couple and even got to spend time with one of our favorites; bridesmaid Tenley Molzahn, from The Bachelor. There were so many playful details of this wedding from lawn games and a Photo Booth, to lots of DIY details that we had such an amazing time styling. Beautiful blooms from Plenty of Petals brought the tables to life and fun printed place-mats from Paper Source added a touch of metallic to pair with the mid century wood tables from Circa Rentals. Acqua Photo was there to capture all of the best and touching moments!

From the beautiful Bride… Kurt and I were high school acquaintances who each had a significant other when we met. He tells me now that he always thought I was the prettiest girl in high school. We reconnected in January 2005 on Myspace. He lived in San Diego and I was “finding myself” in between my parents house in Redlands and my best friend’s dorm in Fullerton. I fearlessly invited him to hang out at my friends house one night and to Disneyland the next day. I asked him what his favorite dessert was and he told me “Apple Crisp” so I went and bought him one of those obnoxious candles in that very scent. When he arrived to my friend’s house that night, I immediately had butterflies and couldn’t get over how tall and handsome he was. After an hour or so, I handed him the candle and told him that I was only going to give it to him if I liked him. Without realizing it, I had spilled the beans about how I felt. He teases me about it to this day, but I know that’s what won him over.

We went to Disneyland the next day and that is when we started to fall in love. After about a year of an on-again-off-again long distance relationship, Kurt asked me to move to San Diego to help him run a new screen printing business he was dreaming up. Without hesitation and in what seemed like almost immediately, I was packing my bags. We spent another six years running our custom screen printing business and going back and forth from BF/GF to “just friends” all while living together and business partnering together. I know. The business we were in was a very hard business in our given economy and left us little room to be creative. At the beginning of 2012 I decided we needed a change. I started to sketch and design my own designs for clothing. Within minutes of realizing this was going somewhere I named our new business “The Printed Palette”. This business was a new beginning for not only us as individuals but for us as a couple. We finally started to leave the stress behind and give our relationship the attention and chance it deserved. And it worked this time!

Kurt surprised me with a trip to the California Redwoods. He took me on a hike up a national park called “Wedding Rock”. It was truly the most beautiful vision of redwoods and the ocean crashing against the coast. Kurt asked a man to take our photo and walked up to grab his phone back from him after he snapped it. Kurt isn’t a fan of asking people to take pictures, so I remember thinking, “Wow this must be a special occasion.” And then he asked for another one “just in case.”  As I promptly fixed my hair I leaned to pose with him and I looked over to find him on one knee. “I want to ask you to marry me?” After nearly ten years, you can imagine I was pretty emotional. And with happy tears in my eyes on the beautiful coast of California, I said YES!!!

We are a fun, flirty couple with a “two heads are better than one” dynamic. We own a Lifestyle Brand called The Printed Palette. We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of our brand and showcase our playful relationship. Together, we designed and created all of the wooden signs, lawn games, and send off flags. We wanted our wedding day to be filled with all the trimmings of a celebration: balloons, confetti, and tons of love! My aunt told me at the wedding that I used to dress up in her wedding gown and say, “One day I will have a ferris wheel and cotton candy at my wedding.” And ironically I had forgotten what the child in me had always known.

I was inspired by my two favorite colors, peach and sea foam blue, and then adding a pop of jade green to tie the whole wedding together—I loved how it turned out! One of my visions for this day was to have an arbor that we could repurpose into a Photo Booth backdrop. Kurt was able to turn my vision into a reality and brought this backdrop to life by screen printing “Best Day Ever” on one side which guests saw as they entered and “Happily Hummel” on the other side which guests saw as we exited down the aisle as newlyweds and it rained confetti! This was one of our favorite DIY projects.
