Top 5 Alternative Processional Songs on Classical Guitar

As a Bride-to-be, you’ve likely been dreaming about a single moment for months: walking down the aisle. While that walk towards your eagerly awaiting Hubby-to-be will be heaven no matter what, we asked LBB member, Chris Dunn of Classical Guitar Ceremonies to pick five favorite alternative processional songs (in our Spotify playlist below) to help make that walk even more memorable!

From Chris DunnThe Bride’s processional is one of the most important choices when picking out your ceremony music. It signals the entrance of the bride and sets the timing for her approach. It’s important to choose something that reflects who you are. Some Brides like to use classical standards, while others prefer to use more contemporary or popular music. Here are some suggestions off the beaten path but musically some of our favorites at Classical Guitar Ceremonies.

“Here Comes the Sun,” The Beatles

Contemporary, yet classic. This is a crowd pleaser that is ideal for outdoor weddings during daylight hours.

“Prelude BWV1007,” Johann Sebastian Bach

A wedding standard that is off “the beaten path,” — a good alternative or companion to “Canon in D” or “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” which are the most common choices for wedding processions

“Gavotta-Chôro,” Heitor Villa Lobos

A gem from the classical guitar’s concert repertoire, this is a beautiful procession that most of your guests have not heard before. It has a poignant optimism that ‘marries’ a classic mid-tempo European dance with harmony from Brazil.

“Julia Florida,” Agustin Barrios

One of the greatest virtuoso guitarist/composers from Paraguay. This romantic A barcarole (a French word, originating from the Italian word barca, or ‘boat’) is a folk song sung by Venetian gondoliers, and sways gently to a walking tempo.

“Suite No. 2 Prelude,” Leo Brouwer

A modern Cuban guitar composer who utilizes the instrument like an orchestra in almost every piece he writes. One of my favorite composers.
