What do you get when you take the ever chic style of New Orleans, add in a dash of Disney, and throw in one dashing couple? One fabulously fun fete that’s hard to beat. Elyse Jennings Weddings planned and designed a La Tavola-decked out affair to remember, with Kim Starr Wise providing romantic fall florals. From Elyse Jennings Weddings… This bride and groom had a classic wedding with pops of muted colors! They share a love for Disney, so they incorporated a few subtle touches from the most magical place on Earth, like their escort cards as fast passes and tables named after their favorite rides! Their wedding also featured kisses in front of the New Orleans streetcar, whimsical lighting, lush organic flowers and a second line band to end the night! It truly was their happily ever after – New Orleans style!
From the Bride… From a young age, I have been enthralled with storybook romances, and couldn’t wait for the day I would meet my match. My dream came true during my first year of law school when I met Ron at a Valentine’s Day party. It was love at first sight, and five years later, Ron asked me to marry him on sunny spring day in a rose garden in Brooklyn.
There was no question in our minds that we wanted to get married in New Orleans. Not only is Ron’s family from there, but we felt that the city’s unique blend of fun-loving energy and timeless romance perfectly reflected who we are as a couple. City Park’s Botanical Garden and Pavilion of the Two Sisters was the first and only venue we visited. The glass encased Pavilion providing views of the beautifully manicured surrounding flowers and trees made for the perfect setting for our garden fairytale wedding!
We selected Elyse Jennings Weddings to help us plan our happy ending, and she and her team were integral in bringing our vision to life. We wanted our wedding to be both romantic and whimsical. We opted for a color palette of plum, blush, and gold, which we felt was appropriate for the time of year, but also captured the look and feel we were going for. Our invitations were sent to guests as a stacked package, which contained overlapping rustic magnolias and other enchanted patterns as well as a mix of formal and handwritten scripts. The package was finished with metallic gold baker’s twine and a custom monogrammed tag and mailed to guests in a gold glitter lined kraft envelope that was hand addressed in metallic plum ink.
We carried over this mix of formal and whimsy to our wedding reception as well. We opted for an outdoor cocktail hour in the Camelia Garden, which we adorned with festoon lighting, candles, and floating gardenias. Inside, guests found their seats at tables named after Disney rides – a nod to our fun-loving side. We dressed the tables in several different metallic neutral linens to provide the room with some added dimension and formality. The floral center pieces were a beautiful garden mix of roses, dahlias, tulips, hydrangeas, and greenery. Flowing garlands and hanging votives covered the lattices throughout the Pavilion, and fresh roses tumbled down the side of our tiered cake.
Because many of our guests were from out of town, we wanted them to experience a taste of New Orleans cuisine at our wedding, so provided several food stations containing local specialties such as jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, and shrimp and grits. After dancing the night away to music by the amazing Gina Brown and Anutha Level, we passed out beignets, and finished off the night with a traditional second line band. In lieu of sparklers, guests waved blush sequin wands that were hand-crafted by me and my mom.
Our wedding was truly the most magical night of our lives and a the perfect start to our happily ever after! We can’t say enough good things about Elyse Jennings Weddings, without whom our day would not have been so spectacular.
