In honor of Father’s Day, we’re teaming up with How He Asked to share with you this Dad’s adorable proposal to his bride-to-be with the help of their son, who may just be the cutest child ever. Read their story and see the photos from the groom’s sister, Gilded Light Photography, below!
Both attending the same college, we worked at two separate daycares that were owned by the same people. They were referred to as “sister daycares”. A friend of mine I worked with was dating a guy that worked at the sister daycare, and she insisted that one of his friends that also worked there, was a total babe and that I needed to meet him. (Side note: they are planning their wedding as well, so apparently this place of employment produces some lasting relationships!)
So, one night while we were all downtown she introduced us to each other; and well, well, well, she wasn’t kidding when she said he was a total babe! I crawled into my shell and hid like I was in middle school. This is definitely not my personality, so I knew I liked him. I could talk to a wall, but somehow couldn’t find the words to say to this guy.
Luckily I didn’t scare him away, and he asked my friend for my number later that week. A few texts turned into a first date at a Mexican restaurant, and we were practically inseparable ever since.
About nine months later we had the surprise of a lifetime when we found out we were going to be parents. Now, here we are with our beautiful 13 month old little boy, planning our wedding. Our love story happened a little out of order, but it is perfectly our order! We are living our own version of happily ever after.
Adam’s sister is a photographer, and a darn good one at that. We have been spoiled to death to have her take family pictures, and pictures of our little bundle of joy for over a year now. So, we planned a family picture session. No big deal, right? We’ve had plenty of those. The three of us went shopping that morning to find the outfits we wanted to wear, and everything was going smoothly. My hair wasn’t exactly cooperating, but when does it ever on picture day, am I right?
So Lindsay scoped out a trail she wanted to take us to. We walked down the trail a minute or so, when we came to a bridge she wanted to use. We took a few pictures, when Adam asked if I would walk back to the car and get his chap stick because his lips were really chapped.
Part of me was thinking, “Ummm go get it yourself!” but he had been so compliant that day with the pictures, when he normally complains all day that he doesn’t want to do it (in true guy fashion). So I figured the least I could do was walk back to get his chap stick for him; besides, my lips were feeling a little chapped too.
So I made my walk there and back, avoiding the ice patches from a precious snow storm we had. When I got back he said, “Hey check out the shirt my sister got for Jace, it’s under his coat.”
In my head I’m thinking to myself, “Huh? That’s random to change his shirt in the middle of pictures.”
I unzipped his coat to find a shirt that says, “Will You Marry Daddy?” It took me about one second to read the shirt, and I realized that this was the moment I have waited for since I was a little girl.
I turned around to look at him, and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said, “YES!”
Let me tell you, it wasn’t hard to have a smile on my face for the rest of those family pictures! I am so lucky to have a man that put so much thought into his proposal to make the most important thing in the world to both of us a part of this special moment, and just as lucky to have his sister, Lindsay, to capture it all so beautifully.
It was a day for the books!
