Elegant Spring Wedding at the Vancouver Club
When your venue already has a classic style, I always vote to embrace it wholeheartedly. The Vancouver Club is prime example and this Bride took the Club's charm and ran with it. Her mother collected 140+ silver pieces to accent the rich decor and all that was left to add was love. Sachin Khona captured all the beauty organized by Filosophi Events and this gallery is my new favorite way to start the day.
From the Bride... Colin and I met while working as summer students in Ottawa. We knew pretty much right away that we were meant for each other and would get married one day. Five years and a move across the country later, and Colin proposed to me. I plan a lot of events in my professional life, and am super type-A organized, so I wasn't too stressed about the planning process. My Mom is also an event planner extraordinaire, so I had an amazing sidekick working with me. My parents and I are members of the Vancouver Club, so having the wedding there was a no brainer - not only is the venue gorgeous, but the food is amazing, the bartender is one of the best in the city, and the team behind the venue is beyond experienced. We booked the venue within five days of getting engaged and it was one of the best decisions we made in the planning process.
With the venue booked, it really set the tone for the rest of the wedding. Both Colin and I are old school, traditional people. We wanted to a classic wedding, that was really all about the guest experience. For us, our wedding was about our nearest and dearest joining us to celebrate the marriage, so having great food, great booze and great music was a priority.
We kept the décor pretty, but simple. I don't have an eye for décor at all, so my Mom took over and had an amazing vision. She decided she wanted a ton of flowers, candles and sparkle, but instead of vases we'd use antique silver teapots, creamers, sugar bowls, etc. While she had a pretty good antique silver collection, we needed over 100 pieces, and so began her epic, BC wide thrift store hunt for silver. By the end of the 10 month buying spree, she had over 140 beautiful pieces, knew the location of every Salvation Army and thrift store in the area, and had single-handedly driven up the price of used silver. Her hunt was well worth it though, as the final effect was beautiful and complimented the heritage building perfectly.
Aside from the venue, my other best decision was hiring a day-of wedding coordinator. Erin Bishop of Filosophi was amazing - she had helpful hints throughout the planning process and on the day, despite my type-A personality, I didn't look at my phone or watch once. She took care of everything, and more than delivered. Hands down she was the best spent money of my budget, and I could not recommend enough the value of hiring a coordinator.
The day itself went perfectly. Colin and I both got ready with our immediate family upstairs at the Club. We kept it low-key and fun, and our amazing photographer Sachin Khona, captured the mood perfectly. The ceremony was short and sweet - only 10 minutes! - so we got to the fun quickly. Cocktail hour was a great moment to catch-up with our guests, the speeches over dinner were hilarious, and the dance party was amazing. The dance floor filled up within 10 seconds of the band starting, and did not empty out until the band (reluctantly) left the stage many hours later. It truly was a celebration - Colin and I felt such love from the room, and were so glad that our friends and family from around the country and the world could join us.
