When the Bride-to-be is an editor at Women’s Wear Daily, you know the style bar is going to be set high. Add in a handsome beau plus adorable pup and you’ve got an engagement sesh captured by Amy Carroll that’s one for the books. A pair of too-cute-for-words shoes and gorgeous hair and makeup by StyleSeat are the cherries on top of this NYC lovefest.
From The Bride…Jake and I met our freshman year at Alma College in Michigan and have been inseparable ever since. He’s a country boy at heart and even agreed to move to New York City with me when I was accepted into graduate school at NYU. (Now that is love!) Last August when we decided to move to Long Island, he asked if we could take some photos with the skyline in the background since we would soon be ‘burbanites. We were under the giant Pepsi sign in Long Island City and it was taking him forever to set up the camera on the tripod and get the perfect angle. He finally came and stood by me, and as I smiled, waiting for the self-timer to go off, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. It was the happiest moment of my life, and he got bonus points for having the camera on video so the whole thing is recorded.
We are getting married back home in Michigan at Greencrest Manor, so we wanted something completely different for our engagement pictures. Luckily, our fabulous photographer, Amy Carroll, had a trip to New York planned, so it worked out perfectly. We decided on lower Manhattan because it was the first place we lived in New York and really felt like home. In fact, The Metro in some of our photos was our first apartment building.
Jake is letting me run wild with the wedding planning, so I wanted to make sure the engagement photos were representative of both of our styles. (Hence, the flannel!) We also had to include our dog, Asti, in some of the pictures. Yes, we are those crazy dog parents. We had so much fun traipsing around the financial district for this shoot and it makes me even more excited for our wedding—but mostly for building our life together afterward.
