What is it about the Brooklyn Winery that always makes for the coolest wedding backdrop? It’s played host to some of our favorite “I dos” to ever hit the SMP pages, but this particular day planned by Roey Mizrahi Events is guaranteed to give any NYC wedding a run for its money. Captured by Clean Plate Pictures, it’s the urban indoor affair done oh-so-right.
From Clean Plate Pictures…Jessi and Michael’s big day was the best possible way to end my wedding season. Not only are they the sweetest couple, but they also got married at the Brooklyn Winery, which is one of my favorite venues. Everything was perfect from the beautiful flowers to the cute cakes to the music; the Howard Fishman band is fantastic! So glad I got to spend the day with these two lovebirds and their wonderful friends and family.
From the Bride… Growing up, I never dreamed about the wedding. If anything, I worried more about avoiding becoming a “perfect wedding” obsessive than I did about the day itself. So when the time came, Michael and I agreed on two basic things: we wanted our ceremony to feel low key and relaxed, and we wanted to work with people who were sweet and nice. We lucked out and ended up finding an amazing location and an incredible team.
The first important piece that fell into place was identifying Brooklyn Winery as our venue. We’d been looking at places in and around the city and nothing was quite right. One night I was in deep Google mode and noticed pictures of a beautiful place right in Williamsburg that I hadn’t seen on any lists. It was cozy and rustic and as soon as we walked in, we knew we wanted to get married there. They were a one stop shop for venue, catering and decor – all we’d need to find were a florist, a photographer and music. Brian, the co-owner, and Jessica, the in-house event planner, went out of their way at every step to make us feel special. I really can’t say enough good things about them (or their awesome fried chicken.)
I stumbled upon Amy Gardella of Seaport Flowers one afternoon as I was stopping into her shop just to pick up a bouquet for my apartment. She was in the midst of getting a wedding out the door (but was somehow still giving every customer lots of attention) and I immediately loved her simple but gorgeous style.
We found our great photographer Erica just by looking around the internet at pictures we loved. In addition to having a great eye she also has the perfect “wedding-side manner” for dealing with nervous brides and grooms. She gently gave us super helpful suggestions (like convincing us we’d really want to get a “first look” shot of Michael coming to meet me after I was dressed and glammed. It’s one of our fave photos.)
Our superb wedding planner Roey Mizrahi kept every train running perfectly on time and somehow managed to get us and our explosion of wedding stuff and personal items through the day. The final bit of magic was getting Howard Fishman, one of our favorite Brooklyn musicians, to play us down the aisle. His albums were an important part of our romance and it meant so much to be able to have him there.
